Belfast Gastropub at 11:30pm

Furthest: Glasses clinking and tapping, shoes squeaking against wood floor, indistinct conversation

Medium: Chairs sliding against the ground, glass breaking, people singing along to the music

Closest: Dj blasting music, Friends talking all around, static from a speaker beside me

Sound level: Very loud

Description:Blaring

Parking Lot behind the SIC

11:30pm, 03/27,26

Furthest: A house blasting music but only the bass can be heard, people walking to parties shrieking, a mourning dove call, airplanes passing, cars revving past.

Medium: Ambulance sirens as they pull out of the station, fire truck sirens, hushed talking, footsteps

Closest: Car running, breath, mixer beeps

Sound level: Medium level of noise constantly, sometimes gets louder but never quieter.

Description: Rough

Necessary Sounds: Ambulances, cars passing, car engine running, the house playing bass music

My Dorm—7:22 a.m.—3/27/26

Furthest: Car alarm ringing, sirens passing by, crows cawing outside

Medium: Elevator door opening, people talking and laughing on my floor, toilet flushing, shower running, door shutting

Closest: Heater running, sheets shuffling, tea kettle boiling, show playing on TV

Sound Level/Activity: Low level of noise and everything is toned down and not super constant

Description: Soft

Necessary Sounds: Heater running, shower running, doors shutting, people talking

Time/Place: 3.27.2026, 1:15PM.  H&R Block, Selden, NY

Furthest: Phone ringing, receptionist talking at the front desk

Medium: Music coming from a small speaker that an employee had set up on top of their cubicle

Closest: Typing on the computer from the nice lady doing my taxes, the printer printing out my forms.

Sound Level & Activity: The sound level overall wasn’t quiet but I wouldn’t consider it to be at a medium volume either, more somewhere in between

Description: Overall the sound was generally normal, it wasn’t overstimulating as most public settings tend to be. I felt almost relaxed

Essential Sounds: Music from speaker, printer, typing from computer, phone ringing, talking from the other employees

Time/Place: 3.27.2026, 6:50PM.  Hofstra University, Colonial Square, outside of Norwich House

Furthest: Distant wind rustling trees with few leaves.

Medium: Cars passing at a fast speed from behind.

Closest: Various hums at similar pitches from the air conditioning units.

Sound Level & Activity: The general sound level is somewhat quiet, however there’s many incidental sounds

Description: Tranquil

Essential Sounds: AC hums, Cars passing, people speaking as they pass by, industrial metal doors opening & closing, various distant car honks.

My room, 5:52pm, 3/27/26

  • A distant plane flying overhead, birds chirping, a car’s engine revving, voices coming from the backyard (or a neighbor’s backyard).
  • The dog barking, my mother typing on her computer in another room, my brother walking down the stairs.
  • The hum of my computer’s fans, my phone buzzing, my chair creaking as I lean back.
  • Everything is either very muted or just very quiet.
  • Peaceful, calm.
  • My computer’s fans humming, the birds chirping.

  1. 3/26/26, 8pm, Hofstra Playhouse
  2. Background: The auditorium, people chatting, footsteps, light music
  3. Middle: the host coming out with microphone, people laughing
  4. Close: people shouting, keys jiggling, then complete silent in the auditorium
  5. The general sound level was medium but bit more on the loud and sound activity is above average and loud.
  6. Madness
  7. People laughing, chatting in the background, and shouting

2.  Background: the kitchen, other people chatting, a couple people setting up chairs in the auditorum part of the building

3. Middle: Music playing through the speakers, the server announcing the orders, squeaking of chairs

4. Close: my own music in my earbuds, my friends talking to me, my own footsteps as I pace around

5. Medium sound level; general layer of conversation, but nothing too loud

6. Relaxed

7. 3 essential sounds are everyone at the tables talking, the music over the speakers, and the kitchen announcing orders

2- Plane flying across the sky(engine rumbling), Hempstead Turnpike traffic

3- People laughing, people talking, metal clattering from tables, Sneakers against the concrete, racquets coming in contact with shuttlecock(people playing badminton)

4- People talking, Podcast from an outdoor speaker, table clanking against elbow, jangling of the insides of a mechanical pencil

5- Sound Level: Medium – almost loud, Amount of Sound Activity: Constant sound

6- Spirited

7- Plane flying across the sky, podcast from an outdoor speaker, people laughing
