Farthest: cars honking, cars driving past

Medium: Coffee machines, coins clinking, music over speakers, air conditioning running

Close: wrapper crinkling, conversation, footsteps

Description: Pleasantly busy

4/7/26–4:00pm–Honors College Lounge

Furthest: Doors shutting down the hall, distant laughter, Dean on a zoom call in their office

Medium: Keys jangling, coffee machine running, water dripping into cup, video playing off someone’s laptop, footsteps on carpet in hall

Closest: Newspaper being flipped through, conversation, ruffling of jacket on couch, tapping of keyboard

Sound Level/Activity: Low sound level, very relaxed and calm atmosphere

Description: Organized clamor

Essential Sounds: coffee machine running, flipping through newspaper, keyboard tapping, conversation

My Dorm—7:22 a.m.—3/27/26

Furthest: Car alarm ringing, sirens passing by, crows cawing outside

Medium: Elevator door opening, people talking and laughing on my floor, toilet flushing, shower running, door shutting

Closest: Heater running, sheets shuffling, tea kettle boiling, show playing on TV

Sound Level/Activity: Low level of noise and everything is toned down and not super constant

Description: Soft

Necessary Sounds: Heater running, shower running, doors shutting, people talking

3/6/26–6:08 P.M.—13th Floor Lounge of Estabrook Hall

Furthest— doors slamming on floor below, ice machine clattering in the kitchen, distant laughing

Medium— elevator doors opening, conversation in the room over, TV playing nearby, music being played off of someone’s phone in the kitchen

Close— keyboard typing, sound of AC/heater running, footsteps on the floor, doors opening

Sound Level— Medium, not super quiet but the strongest noise is not nearby

Description— Routine

Essential Sounds— ice machine clattering, elevator doors opening, sound of AC/heater running

Farthest Sounds– cars driving on the road, car horns, sirens, doors shutting

Medium Range– footsteps, conversations from people walking past, wind blowing trees outside window, distant laughter elsewhere in the building

Close Range– pens clicking, shoes scraping on the ground, chair creaking, typing on laptops, eraser on paper, humming

Sound Level– low with a fair amount of activity

Sound Environment– focused
