Journal Entry #2

1- 2/20/26, 1:16pm – City Line Florist

2- Co-workers chatting in the back room, a large truck driving past the store, general main road ambiance from outside.

3- The doorbell ringing as a customer walks in, a co-worker greeting them by the front.

4- The fridge door sliding closed, the humming of the fridge itself, another co-worker talking on the phone at the front desk, a customer’s footsteps, the cash register being opened.

5- Moderate. Mostly quieter, occasionally interrupted by louder, more prevalent sounds.

6- Busy

7- Co-workers talking, the fridge humming, the cash register opening.

Journal Post #2

  1. Thursday the 19th, 6pm, My table at an Italian restaurant
  2. Furthest sounds are the sizzling pans in the kitchen, the audio of the tvs in the bar, and the maître d’ calling people to their tables
  3. Medium sounds are the hustle and bustle of the servers, the waiters checking in on the tables around me, the clinking of silverware against people’s plates, but mostly the sounds of many many people around me talking.
  4. Closest to me is the people at my table talking, the shifting of my creaky chair, and the soft pound of my drink as it hits the table, along with the subtle shake of the ice
  5. The general sound level is very high, as it is the dinner rush and a lot of people are inside. There is a large amount of different noises around me.
  6. Chaotic
  7. 3 essential sounds: Guests around me talking, the clinking of silverware, and the conversations of my own table.

Journal Entry #1

1. Bits and Bytes, 6:30pm (2/5/26)

2. A refrigerator door closing, chatter from a table on the other side of the room, sounds of cooking utensils and ovens from the kitchen areas.

3. The hum of the drink refrigerators, the soda machine being used, ice being dispensed, someone pulling plastic utensils from the dispenser.

4. My friend collecting her garbage from dinner, a three person conversation to my right, the fan overhead and behind me, the table rocking back and forth and hitting the ground because of its uneven legs.

5. Moderately noisy. Much quieter than Bits usually is during the day. Everything starts to blend together as soon as I stop paying attention and becomes white noise.

6. Bustle.

7. The sound of human voices, a fan humming, kitchen utensils banging together.

  3. Medium: People chewing, fingernails tapping, chairs moving, music playing
  4. Closest: Plastic utensils being used (like either when they pick up food or when it clicks their teeth), a can being placed down, bags or backpacks being placed down, people sniffing, people talking
  5. Sound Level/Activity: The sound level is moderate, but constant
