Location: Bill of Rights, Floor 10 lounge 

Sounds heard: TV announcements, coughs, clapping, talking in unison and overlapping over each other, bodies shuffling.



  1. The sound environment took place 02/07/2022-9:30pm-Alliance 12th Floor Lounge 
  2. Far sounds include the door outside of the lounge swinging open and shutting closed quickly with force as people walk in and out of the upstairs lounge space. 
  3. Medium sounds near me is the constant clicking of controller switches as my boyfriend plays a game, as well as the sound of his slow inhales and exhales. 
  4. Closest to me is the dialogue vibrating from the tv. “I appreciate you being vulnerable gabby- will you accept this rose?” 
  5. Without focusing it may seem like there is only one sound flooding the room, that being the sound coming from the tv. However when doing this exercise one realizes there is a lot more comprising this sound environment than general droning of the bachelor. 
  6. One word: Co-existence 
  7. In order for the environment to stay in tact I feel as though the most important sounds are the clicking of the controller, the rise and fall of deep breaths being inhaled and exhaled, and the dialogue blaring from the tv that signifies what I am doing.

  2. The farthest sounds from me is the downstairs TV playing and my sister singing.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear my mom talking down the hallway.
  4. The closest sounds from me is my TV playing and my bed creaking as I move around on it.
  5. The general sound level is intermediate and the amount of sound activity is sporadic since all sounds are being made separately.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is active.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is my sister singing, my mom talking, and my bed creaking.

Farthest Sound- Someone watching TV down stairs, people laughing in the lounge, and that heater thing acting up again.

Medium Distance- My suite mates laughing and talking about what school work they need to get done this weekend, people going through the now working back gate.

Closest Distance- My dorm rooms A/C going full blast, my play list entitled ‘bops’ is playing, and my rap tap tapping on my key board.

Sound Description- Medium level, the house feels alive and lived in.

Important Sounds- The people down stairs, the A/C, and the music

Laughing and watching TV in my dorm room

 

1- 3/28/18 – 8pm- Dutch Treats

2- Farthest- A car driving down the street, people walking out of smash burger, a shuttle driving by, people yelling outside

3- Medium- A door closing, timers going off, people talking at the register, register beeps, a clock ticking, the tv playing

4- Closest- My friends talking next to me, my breathing, grabbing food that I will eat

5- There is not much going on so its pretty tame and quiet

6- Tired

7- The tv playing, doors opening and closing, me grabbing food

Medium: The TV upstairs, footsteps on the second floor

Closest: My boyfriend talking to his friend about going and getting another parakeet, his footsteps on the carpet, me sniffling

  2. Farthest: people walking, keys jangling, radio playing
  3. Mid-range: Game show playing, people cheering (along with the game show)
  4. Closest: People talking
  5. Sound level: loud, but still quiet enough to have a conversation
  6. Description: Lively
  7. Sounds Essential to environment: TV playing, people talking, people walking
