4- Closest: My friend telling me a story, my bracelets jangling as I type, keyboards clacking, brief clips of people’s conversations as they walk by.
5- Sound level and activity: low, it’s still early and there’s not many people inside, the calm before the storm of common hour
6- Usual
7- The chatter from people, kitchen sounds, my friend’s voice

Location: Bill of Rights Kitchen

Sounds heard: eggs sizzling, spatula scraping pan, microwave beeping, microwave buzz, salt shaker opening, pouring salt, and closing lid

1. Phoenix house Chinese restaurant   5/2/12  8:30 pm

2. The sounds farthest away from me are food sizzling in a pan and a person chopping food.

3. The sounds at a medium range are the cash register opening and people ordering food and talking about the menu.

4. The sounds closest to me are the children of the owners speaking Chinese and running around.

5. The general sound level is loud.

6. I would describe the sound environment as “energetic”.

7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are the food cooking, people ordering food, and the people talking in Chinese.  The restaurant is like its own little world.

1)   3/8/11- 12:15 am- 13th floor of Enterprise dorm in the kitchen area.

2)   I can hear a little bit of people talking in the other rooms, the elevator sounds as it goes up and down to each floor, the heavy foot steps of people walking around and the TVs in the other rooms.

3)   The door opening and closing, a strange rattling noise coming from in the ceiling somewhere, a low consistent humming noise,

4)   The microwave door opening and closing, the microwave noise when it is on, people talking in the room, the room has a bit of an echo, some one using the stove, the sound of pots, the sound of running water from the sink, the sound of the paper towel dispenser and the sound of a person rubbing their hands together with a paper towel in order to dry them, the sound of the trash can being opened and closed,  the sound of boiling water and the sound of opening mac and cheese, the sound of the noodles going in and the sound of moving chairs.

5)   The sound level is relatively quiet but there is a lot of potential for lots of sound because there is definitely lots of sound activity.

6)   Cooking

7)   Boiling water, pots clanging and the microwave noise as its being used.
