Journal Entry #4

  1. 03/26/2024 – 11:04pm – My House.
  2. Sounds farthest away from me: scattered cars driving by and an airplane flying by.
  3. Sounds at medium range: my housemates talking downstairs, the wind outside of my window, a dog barking next door, my housemate’s car pulling in the driveway, and the front door opening and a short greeting.
  4. Sounds closest to me: my heater blowing, my fridge buzzing, and my stomach growling.
  5. The general sound level is quiet. The amount of sound activity is a constant buzzing/hum, but other than that it is low.
  6. Description word: soft.
  7. Essential sounds: wind/cars, quiet chatter and barking, and buzzing/humming.

Journal Entry #4- Gabby Macallister

Date: April 3rd, 2022, 

Location and Time: My bed, 7:57pm

Far Sounds: The dryer running, the tv going downstairs, an ambulance driving by, plane flying overhead, car honking

Medium Sounds: Housemates talking downstairs, people walking by my window talking, typing, housemate moving chair in their room

Close Sounds: Housemate laughing, the shower running upstairs, housemate slamming fridge, pouring water from a britta filter, Mishka running down the stairs, Harry Styles playing

Sound Description/Level: low, mostly quiet

One Word: comfortable

Most Important Sounds: Mishka running down the stairs, housemates laughter people walking and talking

Journal Entry

1- In Bits & Bytes, Feb 21st, 11:30 am

2- Farthest- people laughing and talking outside, a car driving by, a plane, construction work, police cars

3- Medium- People talking on the other side of Bits, someone dropping their keys, coughing, laughing, people buying food

4- Closest- friends whispering something next to me, my friend sneezing, my breathing, a clock above me

5- Sound level- high, Sound activity- intense

6- Energetic

7- Talking nearby, people buying food, police cars outside. (it was the day the truck ran into the Unispan)

Journal Entry

1- February 1st – 8:00 pm – Next to the Halal Cart on Oak St.
2- Farthest Away- Cars honking on another street, people yelling to each other somewhere on campus, an airplane in the air.
3- Medium Range- People walking in the parking lot of the Netherlands, busses squeaking as they drive by, cars speeding down the street, someone getting into their car and turning it on.
4- Closest- The sound of my breathing, the buzzing of the engine of the halal cart, the man chopping food in the cart, people ordering food at the cart and talking with the man working there.
5- The sounds weren’t too loud. The sounds occurred at pretty random times but the one exception was the buzzing of the halal cart which was constant.
6- Active
7- The buzzing of the halal cart’s engine, cars driving by, talking from different people.

1- 2/24/12 – 1:35am -My Dorm Room

2- Airplane passing over head, people laughing outside, and cars honking

3- People talking and laughing as they walk through the stairwell

4- Computer fan hum, refrigerator sound, HVAC hum on

5- The general sound level is low and amount of sound activity is low except for interruptions

6-  Spontaneous

7- Plane flying over hear, people laughing/talking, computer hum
