1. 2/6/26 – 7:01 PM – Student Center Starbucks

2. FARTHEST – People talking, a chair scraping against the floor

3. MEDIUM – music, paper crinkling

4. CLOSEST – a blender, 2 baristas talking, a trash bag being changed

5. It’s quiet, not a lot of people are around and sound activity is consistent but distant

6. Description: Monotonous

7. Essential sound: chairs scraping, people talking, blender

1st Journal Entry

1- Date, Time, Location: 2/6/26. 7:00pm. Mama Lombardi’s restaurant. Holbrook, NY

2- Far Range– Plates clattering in the kitchen, cutlery clattering into buckets, man yelling in italian, kitchen door being swung open

Medium Rage– Jazz music being played, Other tables talking indistinguishably, order being taken from a table, plates being placed onto a table, wooden chairs scraping against the wooden floor, footsteps with different shoes types walking across the floor

Close Rage– Fork scraping against plate, Family talking about phone bills, Glasses being picked up and drank from, glasses case being open and closed

General sound level– There is a large amount of sound. Constant talking and buzzing of people.

Journal Entry #1

1. Bits and Bytes, 6:30pm (2/5/26)

2. A refrigerator door closing, chatter from a table on the other side of the room, sounds of cooking utensils and ovens from the kitchen areas.

3. The hum of the drink refrigerators, the soda machine being used, ice being dispensed, someone pulling plastic utensils from the dispenser.

4. My friend collecting her garbage from dinner, a three person conversation to my right, the fan overhead and behind me, the table rocking back and forth and hitting the ground because of its uneven legs.

5. Moderately noisy. Much quieter than Bits usually is during the day. Everything starts to blend together as soon as I stop paying attention and becomes white noise.

6. Bustle.

7. The sound of human voices, a fan humming, kitchen utensils banging together.

  4. Closest: Plastic utensils being used (like either when they pick up food or when it clicks their teeth), a can being placed down, bags or backpacks being placed down, people sniffing, people talking
  5. Sound Level/Activity: The sound level is moderate, but constant
  6. Description: Crowded
  7. Essential: The music, people talking, chairs moving

1- 02/02/26-1:30 pm – Office of Residence Life

2- Furthest Sounds: Cisco phone ringing, people saying “hello this is the residence office, how can i help you?, door slamming.
3- Medium Range: Printer printing, the shredder making a crunching/buzzing noise.
4- Closest Range: Music coming out of a person headphone, someone typing on this keyboard.
5- The general sound level was in the medium. Nothing too loud or too quiet and the sound activity is average/moderate sound activity.
6- Chaos
7- Clicking sounds on the keyboard, shredder making buzzing/crunching sound after putting the paper in, and Cisco phone ringing.
