February 4th, 2016. 6:37 P.M. In the car with my roommate.

Farthest: Cars honking, cars passing, splash from driving through puddles

Medium: Her car tires rolling against the wet pavement, keys jingling in the ignition, wind against the car, creek of the steering wheel turning, click of the turn signal, sound of air coming through the vents

Close: Twenty One Pilots CD playing, my roommate venting (competing with the volume of the music)

Sound Level: High medium/Loud

Sound Description: Stressful

Important Sounds: Tires against the pavement, music blaring, my roommate talking

  4. Closest sounds: Footsteps on the concrete, jacket sleeves rubbing against sides
  5. Sound level: Medium, most sounds aren’t super close or loud
  6. Sound description: Busy
  7. Important sounds: Footsteps, cars

Sound Journal 2

  1. Setting: February 4th, 2016 at 5:01pm, Calkins Lab
  2. Farthest Sounds: lights buzzing, computers humming, door unlocks and opens
  3. Medium Sounds: two girls talking in a hushed tone, computer mouses clicking, staccato phone buzzes, key board clicks, printer beeps, feet clomping
  4. Closest sounds: Alex’s foot tapping, keyboard clicking,  two short phone buzzes, paper crinkles while being folded.
  5. Sound Level: Minimal, low but rapid
  6. Sound Description: Productive
  7.  Most important sounds: Keyboard, phone buzzes, girls talking in hushed tone.

  2. Farthest: Microwave beeping, elevator, door to stair case slamming,
  3. Medium: Vending machine, movie playing in the next room, people talking
  4. Closest: Typing on my laptop, music coming from my laptop, chip bag rustling
  5. Sound Level: Medium. There aren’t many people, most of the noise is coming from the TV’s
  6. One word: Relaxed
  7. 3 sounds: Vending machine, people talking, TV’s

  1. 2/4/16, 3:00 pm, Cindy’s Modern Drama 2 class
  2. Farthest: sound of crackling paper around the room, sound of squeaking chairs, sound of classical music from next door class, sound of muffled whispers
  3. Medium: Cindy lecturing in the front of class, Cindy’s footsteps while pacing
  4. Closest: Sound of pen taking notes, my breath
  5. Sound Level: Medium, everyone is respectfully watching Cindy and the other noises are vague and soft.
  6. One word: Studious
  7. 3 words: notes, lecture, music

  1. 2/04/16, 11:30 a.m., Au Bon Pain.
  2. Farthest: sound of cashier ringing people up, conversations around the seating area, 80’s pop song playing.
  3. Medium: the conversation of 2 women sitting at the table next to me as well as the tapping of their keys as they type on their laptops, crunching of the food wrappers from the table behind me.
  4. Closest: the sound of my keys as I type, the ice rattling in my cup as I drink my iced tea.
  5. Sound level: loud. Every table is full of people having their own conversations and the music volume is quite high.
  6. One word: Energetic.
  7. 3 Words: talking, music, crunching.

  2. Farthest: Random chatter between the students at the window about their various lives and days
  3. Medium: The cash register lady asking a customer what item they ordered from the burger bar, two girls talking about how they are upset because the milkshake machine is broken, a student shaking their salad to mix it up
  4. Closest: A girl at the salad bar next to me telling the worker behind the bar what she wants in her salad, my own conversation with a friend behind me in line
  5. Sound Level: High, there were many people and a lot of conversations going on
  6. One word: Lively
  7. 3 words: conversation, cash register beeping, shaking salads
