I’m at a house with some people chilling it’s 5:30 2/21/25


  1. Sounds farthest away: the wind hitting the blinds the water running
  2. Sounds medium range: people talking in the house the water faucet running and hearing sizzling meat on a pan
  3. Sounds closet: my friend talking to me and free styling
  4. The general sound level is really medium nothing to load but also kind of I hear people talking and music playing
  5. One word description of the “sound environment”: calm and homey just a chill space
  6. I can here music playing people talking and people parking up some plates and someone coming up from the stairs

  2. Farthest: Music on speakers, food being made and students ordering
  3. Medium: People talking at tables, chairs/tables being shifted or moved and crinkling of food wrappers
  4. Closet: Friends talking at my table, people eating and food being moved around the table
  5. General sound level: Very loud
  6. Buzzing
  7. People ordering food, chairs/tables being shifted and music on speaker

2) Far sounds: The vending machine, the doors swinging open and close, faint laughter
3) Medium Sounds: Pages turning, Tables being moved (scarping sound) People’s keychains, Bookbag zipping open/closing
3) Close sounds: Girls laughing, whispering, keyboard typing, Container opening
5) The general sound level is noisy. It is loud in here.
6) The sound environment is high in energy.

  1. Far Range Sound – TV playing downstairs
  2. Medium Range Sound – Upstairs bathroom fan on, my dog’s collar jingling  and paws tapping along the floor.
  3. Close Range Sound – Living room TV, hockey game playing, my dad talking about the game.
  4. The general sound level of my surroundings is loud
  5. Energized
  6. Hockey game announcers, My dad cheering, dog walking around the room

1. 2/19/25 – 1:00 PM – Psibrary in Emily Lowe Hall

2. Far Sounds: I hear buzzing from the air conditioners upstairs, paper printing, and someone gently closing desk drawers.

3. Medium Sounds: I hear people singing, talking, and laughing, desks moving in the classrooms above me, and someone’s high heels stepping along the hard floor.

4. Close Sounds: I hear air blowing from the air purifier, keychains/carabiners dangling from backpacks, and several doors opening/closing.

5. The general sound level is noisy. The sound activity is consistent.

6. The sound environment is active/energetic.

7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are people singing/talking/laughing, keychains/carabiners dangling from backpacks, and several doors opening/closing.

1. 2/07/25 – 3:14 PM – My Bedroom 

2. Far Sounds: I hear a plane flying above my house, strong wind from cars driving on the street, and a train passing by.

3. Medium Sounds: I hear my dog’s paws tapping on the hardwood floor above me, my brother talking with my mom, and my parakeets chirping in the living room.

4. Close Sounds: I hear the humming of the gas boiler, water traveling through pipes, and the clacking of keys as I type on my laptop’s keyboard.

5. The general sound level is moderate. There is constant sound activity.

6. The sound environment is peaceful.

7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are humming from the gas boiler, my dog’s paws tapping along the floor above me, and the clacking of keys as I type on my laptop’s keyboard.

1st Journal Entry

Feb 7th, 2025 – 1:25 pm – My bedroom

Far Sounds: Cars passing by on the street, a plane flying overhead

Medium Sounds: A fan blowing air on rotation, my string light leaves hitting softly against the wall from the fan

Closest Sounds: My fingers typing on the keyboard, the sound of me breathing air from my nose

General Sound Level: Quiet, since everyone is out of the house. I live with six other people, plus my bedroom is at the back of the house so I can hear less noise.

One word describing the Sound Enviroment: Peaceful

Three Important Sounds: Planes flying by, a fan blowing air, typing sound on the computer

  1. February 6th, 2025 – Living room in my house
  2. Sounds farthest away: Light rain outside the window, cars driving by outside and water running in the upstairs shower
  3. Sounds medium range: My roommates teacher talking on Zoom through their computer speaker, radiator humming/whistling and music playing through my roommates phone speaker
  4. Sounds closet: My keyboard clicking as I type, my roommate talking to me/fidgeting their body and my own breathing 
  5. The general sound level is quite high with many different types of sounds. Since I live with 6 other people there are sounds coming from all around the house that correlate to different activities. I am also sitting with someone so their noise level is much higher in comparison to the rest.
  6. One word description of the “sound environment”: lively 
  7. Music playing in another room through a phone speaker, radiator humming and miscellaneous talking
