Sound Journal #3
March 6th, 4:26PM, Shapiro Family Hall lobby.
Furthest: Heating system humming, very distant talking, echoes from the piano.
Medium: Footsteps walking towards outside, piano playing melodically.
Closest: Students talking, the double glass doors closing, fabric from my clothing moving.
Sound level varies extremely as the people who pass me talk loudly and their footsteps ring, contrasting with the light piano tunes and the echoing. The amount of sound activity is spirited as there is a strong contrast between low tones and high.
One Word Description: Spirited
Essential Sounds:

Sound Journal #3~~Kaitlyn Bancroft
- March 11th- 6:00PM-Outside of Axinn Library
- Far Sounds~ Clanking as the wind whips and makes the flag hit the flag pole, thudding of footsteps as people are walking off of the Unispan, wind whistling
- Medium Sounds~ Chirping of birds in trees and the scratching/scuttling of squirrels running up trees and their branches.
- Close Sounds~ Rustling of leaves from the tree I am sitting directly under, the labored breathing of the person next to me as they experience a cold chill from the wind in question.
- There seems to be a lot of sound activity happening but the level it is being produced is very soft and would be considered background noise that goes unnoticed during the regular day.
- Serene
- Chirping of the birds, the rustling of the leaves, the slight whistle of the wind- these three sounds I would say are essential to keeping the sound environment in tact. They all represent sounds in nature, furthermore a representation of how serene nature can be if we stopped to listen.

Journal Entry #1 – Ferguson
1. Date: 1/30/20 – Time: 7:11pm – Location: Intramural Fields
2. Farthest away from me, I can hear groups of students chatting with each other as they are walking past the fields. I can hear the engines of the cars passing by from time to time, as they slow down to adhere to the stop sign and the speed bump. Also, the women’s Ultimate Frisbee team is on the other field practicing. I can hear them yell the plays to each other, and laugh and chat with each other during their “water breaks”.
3. In a more medium range of sound, I can hear my Ultimate Frisbee teammates stomping on the ground and breathing somewhat heavy, since we are completing the mile portion of our Fitness Test. I can also hear our coach assisting us with supportive words as we complete this activity, as well as him yelling out the time updates.
4. The sounds closest to me include my own feet stomping on the ground and my own heavy breathing. I can hear the certain sounds that teammates very close to me are making, such as grunts and moans. Internal sounds involve me motivating myself with supportive words in order to finish the run.
5. The general sound level is more quiet than it was loud. Although there are a lot of sound activity being produced on the field in general, my teammates are spaced apart due to their different run speeds.
6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “peaceful”.
7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the stomps on the ground, the supportive words that our coach provides for us, and the motivational words that I provide myself internally as I get closer to finishing the run.
