Thursday Evening

  1. 2/2/17 5:19 pm Stuyvesant Hall
  2. farthest away: traffic from Hempstead turnpike
  3. medium range: car outside playing music
  4. closest: the heating system, my roommate sketching, my keyboard clicking
  5. The more I listen for sounds the more annoying they get. I am in my dorm typing this and listening to the clicking keys. A car is stopped at the intersection and blaring bass-heavy music. My window is closed, but I can feel the music vibrating in my chest and on my desk. My roommate sits on her bed sketching; the pencil is scratching along her paper. There is other traffic noise from the Hempstead turnpike. The wind could be hear whooshing through the bare trees, until my heating system came to life. Strangely, the music from the car can still be heard and felt from my 4th floor dormitory. Why are they still there? Has the light not yet turned green? Maybe they are parked along the side of the road.
