Sounds Heard: People talking, footsteps, people eating, Someone speaking over a mic informing everyone of free food, music.
1 – 3/9/14 – Long Island Rail Road Train – 12:20
2 – Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.
-Someone laughing a considerable amount from the back of the train car.
-The sound of a hole puncher being used.
-3 – Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.
-The announcer over the speakers saying New Hyde Park is next.
-Someone opening the doors between cars.
-General conversation at a low level.
4 – Identify and list the sounds closest to you.
-Two guys catching up on what happened over the weekend and their plans for a wedding they are going to next weeked.
-A guy in the row across from me eating food out of a brown paper bag..
-The sound of the train riding on the tracks.
5 – Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
-Aside from the two guys sitting in front of me the sound activity is pretty low, however the two guys are pretty loud and I heard all about their drunken weekend in the city, perhaps too much. I would say that there is a lot of activity between their conversation, the guy eating next to me and the sound of the tracks.

-relaxed

-The train tracks.
-The two guys’ conversation.
-The guy eating next to me.
This is the sound of my paper cutter as I slice my resumes to fit my headshots. Ignore Gary and Alan yelling to me and talking in the background. I repeated the motion a few times to recreate the sound. You can also here the plastic cover snapping to hold the paper in place, the blade as it cuts, and in the beginning, the vibration of the blade as I accidentally knocked it, kind of a boing-oing-oing.

Sounds Heard: SGA playing Phil Collins’ “Strangers Like Me,” voices talking, Christina crinkling a bag, me… forgetting that I was recording, tapping a bass-line to the song in the background,
1. Kinkos, Thursday, March 13, 9:00 pm.
2. Identify sounds furthest from you: I can hear the sound of a customer service rep for the post office section typing on his keyboard and chatting with his customer.
3. Identify sounds at medium range to you: The phone behind the service desk rings about every two minutes. The only other customer service rep is on hold, on speaker phone, with technical support. Sara Bareilles plays from the speakers in the ceiling.
4. Identify sounds closest to you: The touch screen on the printer I’m using makes a click with each button I press. The printer is printing my resumes with a loud whir. The tray moves down with a clink as it finishes up. The keypad spits out my debit card with a beep to remind me not to leave it behind.
5. The general sound level is medium, the only activity being the hold music, the store music, the phone ringing, the employee on hold, and my printer.
6. Word to describe sound environment: Tech-filled.
7. 3 things to complete the sound environment:
– My printer whirring
– The hold music
– The store music (they pay for that radio to be on, right?!)

Sounds heard: My cat playing with a paper bag, my cat struggling to get out of the paper ag, the television, my mom saying “Jenna come in, do you like this shirt? I kind of like this”, and me hitting the microphone on my phone.

The sound level is at a medium but the amount of sound activity is definitely high. Everyone is doing their own thing in my house and most of the electronics we own are on.

Someone sending a text message on their phone, the elevator beeping.

The sound of the washers and dryers spinning. Wet clothes hitting up against the dryer. A conversation between two girls.

My wet clothes being thrown into the dryer, my shoes shuffling along the tile.

There is a lot of sounds going on all at once. It is very noisy and exciting, but it is also rather relaxing at the same time.
