Sound Observation 3

Date: 2/14 Time: 6:25 am Location: JFK airport

Farthest noise: the distant rumble of people walking, excited children chattering, the clank of high heels, elevator music being played somewhere

Mid-range noise: Airport announcements all talking over each other, scattered giggles, a walky-talky going off

Closest: TV news playing, A couple talking next to me

Sound level: Busy, but not particularly loud

Sound presence: all-encompassing

Description: busy

Essential sounds: chattering kids Airline announcements, people talking

1- 2/15/2018  Noon – Office of Admissions
2- the cars outside, the glass doors letting the wind whistle in, the overhead pop piano music
3- The phone calls from admissions counselors offices , Laughter from the counselors, the blender in the break room being used
4- My co-worker on the phone, the families coming in, music from my head phones

Journal Entry #3 – Valentine’s Dinner

  1. Date: Valentine’s Day 2018, Time: 7:20 pm, Location: City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill, restaurant in Westbury, NY
  2. Sounds farthest away: plates falling and possibly breaking (scattered throughout evening), bar drinks being poured, faint music playing in the background
  3. Sounds at medium range: Food sizzling/being grilled/prepared, talking amongst other patrons
  4. Sounds closest: Talking amongst my family members, talking with waiter, slight clatter of utensils and dishes
  5. General sound level: Quite loud, but no screaming. Most of the sound came from chatter throughout the night
  6. “Serene”
  7. Bar drinks being poured, faint music in background and food sizzling/being grilled/prepared

  2. Far sounds: my neighbors door closing, sinks running, toilets flushing
  3. Closer sounds: my roommate snoring, blankets rustling
  4. Closest sounds: typing on my laptop, sneezing, knuckles cracking
  5. Sound level/amount: very quiet and soft
  6. Description: still
  7. Essential sounds: my snoring roommate, the typing on my laptop, and my neighbors door closing
