1. 4/14/23 in my dorm on the phone with my family
2. Farthest Away: People talking in the hall, my dad frying something on the stove, my dogs barking outside (also via the call)
3. Medium Range: My neighbor’s door opening and closing, my mom shouting across the kitchen so I can hear her, the trees scraping up against my window
4. Closest: My HVAC unit blowing loudly (and uselessly), my sister talking to me, the sound of rustling every time I move around
5. Sound Level: Loud (because of my family)
6. Sound Activity: Constant
7. One Word: Chaotic
8. Essential Sounds: My dad frying something, my mom shouting across the kitchen so I can hear her, and my sister talking to me

- Farthest Sounds: beeping sounds from kiosks, food workers talking, coffee machine at Starbucks, footsteps
- Medium sounds: forks/silverware being dispensed, people in conversation, laughter, metal chairs moving
- Closest sounds: fizz of soda inside bottle, music playing through headphones, people eating their food near me, backpacks unzipping, person speaking on the phone
- The sound level is medium, it’s the dinner hour so more people are coming into the student center to get food and meet up with friends
- One word description: casual
- Three essential sounds: kiosk beeping, food workers talking, metal chairs moving
Talene and I at Mac and Melts, Talene and I eating tutor tots, bumping over our water bottles, laughing and the soft music in the background while we eat dinner. 8:00pm
- Date: Valentine’s Day 2018, Time: 7:20 pm, Location: City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill, restaurant in Westbury, NY
- Sounds farthest away: plates falling and possibly breaking (scattered throughout evening), bar drinks being poured, faint music playing in the background
- Sounds at medium range: Food sizzling/being grilled/prepared, talking amongst other patrons
- Sounds closest: Talking amongst my family members, talking with waiter, slight clatter of utensils and dishes
- General sound level: Quite loud, but no screaming. Most of the sound came from chatter throughout the night

- Bar drinks being poured, faint music in background and food sizzling/being grilled/prepared
Out to dinner for a friend’s birthday.
Location: Student Center Front Dining Room
Sounds Heard: Assorted voices and conversations, Christina talking about how she’s “not snap chatting anymore,” the kid next to us slamming down his salt and pepper, and then Christina’s plasticware falling out of her hands on to the table, the person next to us talking, me picking my phone off the table.

Farthest from me, I can hear the sounds of students having lively conversations while eating their dinners. I can hear faint plans for Valentines Day and surprises girls are planning for their boyfriends.
3- Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.
At medium range from me are the TVs showing the news, sports games, and the Olympics in Sochi.
4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you (You can include internal sounds if noticed or relevant).
Closest to me, I can hear the voice of my friend as she’s telling me a story while eating her dinner. I hear the sound of myself chewing my food and contributing to the conversation.
5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
The sound level in HofUSA is that of excited, hungry students just looking for a place to relax and enjoy their dinner. It’s bustling and loud with a lot of people moving about the room.
6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment. Note: you need to try and figure out what sounds make up this environment and which of those sounds need to be there for the feeling of the environment to stay intact.
Three sounds that are essential to the sound environment are the sound of the other students around me, the TVs next to me and the sound of the conversation I’m having with my friend while eating dinner.
