Journal Entry #2 – Dylan Pojano

2/26/21, 4:15 pm, Enterprise Laundry Room

Sounds farthest away from me: The tumbling of the dryers, drying the copious amounts of garments it holds. One dinging, signifying that it has completed its hour long cycle.

Sounds at a medium range from me: The fumbling of opening a bag of tide pods, until it finally cracks open the squishy jewels. The scraping of a laundry basket against the floor, like nails on a chalkboard. The flapping noise of various dirty clothes, slapping on top of the washing machines, as they get sorted into their respective colors.

Sounds closest to me: Water hissing and screaming through a small hose, filling up the washing machines. A washing machine buzzing and humming below me, as it gets louder until it’s hurting the clothes at mach speed like a jet engine, so as to surely disperse the soap and rid everything of scum.

The general sound level and amount of sound activity. In its totality, the noise in the room is maddening, but the white noise that is being produced, beckons one to listen to its chaotic symphony.

One word description to the “sound environment”: Frenzied

Three sounds which are essential to the sound environment: Water whistling through the hoses, the dulling drone of the washing machines, and the air punching of the dryers.
