1- 04/04/2013- 9:08pm- Black Box Theater New Academic Building (NAB) Rehearsal for 5 Women.

2- Sounds farthest away: High-pitched but quiet hum of what could be a heater, radiator or lights.

3- Sounds at medium range: Eliza (Meredith) yelling at Sophie (Mindy), Meredith rips a piece of paper. Corinne (Trisha) putting make up away, Morgan’s (Georganne) skirt ruffles against her seat in the audience as she gets up for her upcoming cue.

4- Sounds closest: The sound of my paper crinkling as I write notes, the pencil rubbing against the paper. As I take an occasional bite of pizza, I hear the ripping crunch and then squish and crunch as I chew. Tom takes a swig of water from his water bottle.

5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: Sound level is very high as there is much sound activity including internal and external sounds with screams, paper rips, crinkling, and general movement. Sounds like everything’s falling apart.

6- One word description to the “sound environment”: Ripping.

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.: Meredith screaming, ripping paper, rip and crunch of pizza.

Listen to

Location: 2/28/13, Adams Playhouse, 9:47PM

Sounds: People laughing, talking, loud noise of door slamming shut, Max Seijas and I talking about my shoes made of camel from Israel (they are so cool! But I feel terrible wearing them…).

This is what breaks are like for actors. Mindless chatting about camel shoes.

1- 02/28/2013-6:24-Lowe 110 Rehearsal Santiago ’73

2- Sounds farthest away: Footsteps of people leisurely walking around outside of the room.

3- Sounds at medium range: Musical Director softly saying “One, two, three” as he conducts, cast playing guitar and singing harmonies as well as speaking lines at different times.

4- Sounds closest to me: The sound of my exhalation.

5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: General sound level is very soft and  the level of sound activity is about at a medium. Cast members are singing in harmony, two guitars are strumming to the light whisper of the tempo. All of the sounds come together to make a crisp streamline of sound so that it makes the elements seem linear. The people walking outside are in no rush at all, their steps seem to swing along with the rhythm of the song and the whispers. I notice my breathing naturally aligns itself with the sounds around me.

6- One word description of the “sound environment”: Swung.
7- 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment: Soft whispering of the tempo, singing, guitar.

1. 2/23/12, 7:30, The Playhouse Stage.

2. The humming of generators, Athena calling “lights out,” coughing, the echos from lines being said, laughing.

3. Chains clinking, footsteps and pounding on the stage, Zach saying his lines.

4. The squeezing of men’s shoes, footsteps of pacing behind me, my typing on my keyboard.

5. The sound level is mild. Only one person is speaking at a time in this scene and there is not much movement therefore, there is no pounding from footsteps.

6. Focused.

7. The lines being spoken, the humming of the generator, and the echoing.

Listen to

Location: Calkins 139 around 9 PM, Thursday, February 24th, rehearsal.

Sounds heard: People chatting and joking about a scene they had just finished, then setting up to do it again.
