Journal Entry #10 – Barone

  1. Date: 3/31/20 – Time: 12:30pm – Location: My Home (Carmel, NY)
  2. The farthest sound from me is my mom talking downstairs to a friend.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear my sister playing the piano and singing below me.
  4. The closest sound from me is my phone playing music next to me.
  5. The general sound level is more loud and the amount of sound activity is a lot since the sounds are loud enough to cause a ruckus.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is pleasant.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is my mom talking downstairs, my sister playing the piano and singing, and my phone playing music.

Journal Entry #8 – Ferguson

1. Date: 3/22/20 – Time: 12:00pm – Location: Estabrook Parking Lot

2. Farthest away from me, I can hear other students and their parents talking to each other, and their car trunks being closed.  I can also hear the wheels of their bins being dragged along the concrete.

3. In a medium range, I can hear my parents talking about wearing masks and gloves before entering the building.  Moreover, I can hear the trunk of our car being slowly opened.

4. Closest to me, I can hear the footsteps of both myself and my mother, as well as me complaining that the mask is causing my glasses to fog.  I can hear the wheels of my bin dragging along the concrete as I pull it.

5. The general sound level is a bit noisy due to the bins being pushed/pulled along the concrete. Other than this, there is not much sound activity taking place.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “peaceful”.

7. Three sound that are essential to the “sound environment” are the bins being pushed/pulled along the concrete, my complaints about my glasses being fogged, and my parents talking to each other.

Farthest Away: Frogs or some kind of animal?, dogs barking

Medium Range: Someone riding on a bike, my dogs running through leaves, water running nearby

Closest: Garage opening, me walking, my phone playing music

Sound level: a normal kind of quiet

One word Description: home

Journal Entry #8

  1. 3/26/2020, 7:40pm, Kitchen (Housemate making dinner)
  2. Car driving by outside, dog barking outside, & sirens in the distance.
  3. Housemate running up/down stairs, door shutting upstairs, & music playing in housemate’s room.
  4. Oven opening/closing, water running, aluminum foil, sizzling, microwave timer, seasoning being spread, & slicing.   
  5. The sound level is moderate, since I’m sitting right next to the kitchen and can hear everything clearly.  The amount of sound activity is limited since cooking sounds don’t overpower each other. 
  6. Calm. 
  7. Oven, sizzling & slicing.

Farthest Sound- The sound of birds chirping outside my window and of cars driving by on the street.

Medium Distance- The shower running in the next room as well of the fan going off, making a sound as though it hasn’t been cleaned of dust in a while.

Closest Distance- The chewing of my own gum as well. as a text message ding from my phone.

Sound Description- Busy and full of life.

Important Sounds- The shower, the fan, and the gum
