When & Where: 03/12/2020 9:36pm Sitting outside of a dorm hall at KSC

Far Sounds: Cars, motorcycles, a far of siren, someone running on pavement, wind

Medium Sounds: footsteps, talking, trees blowing in the wind, the hum of an HVAC unit

Close Sounds: door buzzing people in, footsteps, talking, windows closing,

General Level: quiet

One-word Description: calm

Essential Three Sounds: wind, door buzz, distant vehicles

Journal Entry #7

  1. 3/12/2020, 2:55pm, Trader Joe’s in Westbury, NY.
  2. Sliding doors opening/closing, cars driving outside, & shopping carts pushed against each other outside.
  3. Bells ringing at cash registers, cardboard being ripped & broken down, shopping carts rolling around, customers talking & background music playing.
  4. Time clock beeping, footsteps, paper grocery bags opening, & item scanner beeping.
  5. The sound level is medium because the sounds aren’t loud enough where they clash and you can’t pinpoint individual sounds.  The amount of sound activity was very high because there were at least 10 sounds that I could identify.  
  6. Hectic.
  7. Food item scanner, shopping carts, & paper grocery bags.

Date, Time, Location: 3/12, around 5 pm, Stop and Shop in Ridgefield, CT

Farthest away: carts moving, child screaming, people talking loudly

Medium: carts moving, people taking things off of the shelf, refrigerator doors opening and closing.

Closest: Friend talking to me, doors opening and closing, pallet carts moving, people talking

Sound Level: Loud and busy

One word Description: Crazy

Journal Entry #7 – Barone

  1. Date: 3/12/20 – Time: 5:00pm – Location: My Home (Carmel, NY)
  2. The farthest sounds from me is my mom talking to my grandma downstairs in the kitchen and the television on.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear someone walking up the staircase towards my room.
  4. The closest sounds from me is me typing on my laptop and sniffling.
  5. The general sound level is pretty noisy and the amount of sound activity is large since a lot of noises are happening at once.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is loud.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is my mom talking to my grandma, someone walking up the staircase, and me typing on my laptop.
