Sound Observation #4

1- 2/24/12. 12:24 am. Leiden House

2- the whispers of my suitemates in their room

3- My typing on the keyboard
4- the assholes in Leiden house who disregard quiet hours and blast their music through sets of closed doors
5- even though it’s quiet hours, it seems to be louder than Manhatten on a weekend in the summer
6- annoying
7- as this is the loud Leiden house, unfortunately the assholes are required for the sound level to stay the same. People screaming at them to shut up is also a necessity for this environment to exist. Finally, while it is not wanted, their loud, obnoxious music blaring from their rooms to piss people off is another need

Journal Entry #3

1- 2/24/12-12:28-Design Studio, Emily Lowe Hall

2- Intense Dubstep music coming from the speakers
3- Chairs clanking, someone coughing
4- Ice clinking in my soda, typing on my keyboard
5- The sound level is medium range, but only due to the loud music.
6- Bangarang.
7- Dubstep music, typing on my keyboard, someone coughing

Journal Entry #4

1. 2/23/12  4:30pm Hofstra University Special Collections

2. The sound farthest away from me is the computer playing “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston, and the click-clack of a keyboard.

3. The sounds at a medium range from me are the squeaking of a rolling chair turning back and forth and my coworker on the phone with another department.

4. The sounds closest to me are the whirring and printing sounds of the copy machine as it makes multiple copies at a time and the sounds of me cracking my knuckles and sighing from standing for a long time.

5. The general sound level is moderate and the sound activity is steady.

6. This environment can be described as “productive”.

7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are the sounds of the copy machine, my coworker on the phone, and the sounds of her keyboard.  These together create the feeling of a busy, productive office.
