Date of Observation: February 23, 2011

Location: Cabaret, Spiegel Theatre

Time: 12:45 AM

Far away sounds: People talking and making semi-audible comments in the rows behind me, whispering backstage, doors opening and closing.

Moderately close sounds: Ian reading Dept. Times on stage, Chris laughing a few seats down, papers shuffling, someone getting up from a seat/seat creaking

Very close sounds: Avery and Bionca giggling next to me, the paper or my script crinkling and a pencil scratching when it writes, heavy breathing.

One word description: Eventful.

Crucial sounds to recreate this atmosphere: Ian reading the The Department Times, the whispers and comments of an unruly audience, laughter.

Sound Journal #4

2/22/11, 9:00 A.M, Ticket Kiosk In Subway Station In Grand Central Terminal, NYC

The furthest sounds from my location in line at the ticket kiosk are the clank of subway tracks in the distance.

The sound a medium distance from my location is the cranking and beeping of the turnstiles leading to the subway platform.

The sounds closest to me are the booming subway announcements projected from the PA system directly over my head.

The general sound level is overwhelmingly loud and the amount of sound activity is through with many different sources creating many different sounds.

Frantic

Three sounds that are necessary to the feeling of this sound environment are the frequent PA subway announcements, the hurried footsteps of hundreds of New Yorkers in transit, and the clank of subways approaching and departing from the station.
