Hofstra Drama 20 – Sound for the Theatre

Location: My kitchen, Friday 3/18, 4 pm.

Sounds Heard:

• Water running
• Clanging of dishes in the sink
• Scrubbing of sponge 
• Banging of cutting board against the sink 

Location: On the ferry to Nantucket, Hyannis, Massachusetts, 6:14am

Sounds Heard:

• The captain of the boat giving the boat safety guidelines
• Low mumble of the workers on the ferry
• Bathroom right next to my seat going
• People watching videos
• Distant laughing
• Static of the comm

Location: The RA Office in Alliance Hall (recorded while I was on duty that night) 

Sounds heard: 

• sniffling 
• loud beep as someone swipes through the turnstile 
• clanking as the turnstile is walked through 
• the creaking as the turnstile is walked through 
• ding of the elevator doors opening 
• distant laughing 
• bang of the outside doors as they slam shut 

Location: Gabby’s Room, Hempstead

Sounds heard: Gabby calming Mishka (the dog) down, dog wining, dog sniffing

Location: The Shakespeare Garden, 1:39pm

Sounds Heard:

• Birds chirping
• People walking by
• Typing
• Wind whooshing

Location: Kitchen, Hempstead NY

Sounds Heard:

• Shuffling of feet on floor
• Opening of refrigerator
• Bathroom fan whirring
• Shower running
• Footsteps padding on ceiling from upstairs 
• Refrigerator being closed
• Soft scuffle of chair being pushed on the floor

Location: My Kitchen, Hempstead

Sounds heard: Shaking of pills, twisting of a cap, cap being put back on

Location: Seafood Restaurant Carle Place New York 

Sounds heard: 

• woman laughing across the room 
• scrapping of forks across the plate 
• clinking of wine glasses, as they are moved around on the table
• at the end there is cracking as a crab leg is split open 
• thuds as plates are placed on the table 

Location: On the street corner by Popeyes (near the turnpike)

Sounds:

• cars driving past on the turnpike
• cars idling
• occasional doors clicking
• occasional honking
• very muffled music coming from the car
• sniffling from the cold
• low wind
