Medium sounds: clapping and cheering from sections around us, the bat hitting the ball
Close sounds: roommate making comments next to me, people speaking French behind me, the loudspeaker anytime anything happens
Sound description/level: loud and passionate and full of a low level of anticipatory chatter punctuated by cheers

Sounds heard: People walking, suitcase wheels on floor, lots of chatter and loud ambient noise

Location: my dorm in VP (7th floor, windows open), playing guitar
Far sounds: cars driving below, engines revving, people talking and laughing in the parking lot
Medium sounds: my roommate laughing at whatever she’s watching
Close sounds: my guitar playing, me singing, typing in the breaks, my laptop fan
Sound description/level: It’s loud for a dorm but quiet for a song, if that makes sense. When I’m playing, the guitar and the song I’m singing are pretty loud, but when I stop it suddenly becomes extremely quiet in the room.

Far sounds: Typing of people at front of room, central heating/air blowing, people sniffling
Medium sounds: Professor lecturing, professor’s shoes on the linoleum, questions and voices from classmates
Close sounds: My own typing, my chair creaking
Sound description/level: Quiet, focused sound, revolving around the sound of the lecture currently being given by the professor. She is speaking loudly and clearly but the rest of the class and classroom is understandably silent.

Location: the Red Line in the DC Metro
Sounds heard: Metro voice announcing “doors closing,” automated voice announcing doors opening, background chatter, train moving over tracks

Far sounds: someone singing or playing music (faint), cars driving
Medium sounds: planes overhead, doors to the tower dorms opening
Close sounds: footsteps, jangling keys, stuff in bags rustling, clothes brushing, footsteps, breathing, friends talking
Sound description/level: It’s quiet, which make the quieter sounds like breathing and clothes brushing louder. The general feeling is calm. It’s also nighttime, so it’s dark out, which lends itself to the muted nature of the surrounding world.

Sounds heard: Funny/Habits by Makin’ Treble playing on car speakers (muffled), two distinct voices singing, someone laughing, someone talking

Far sounds: water running in the kitchen in the back
Medium sounds: rustling of a bag, door opening and closing, beep of the scanner at the register, people walking around shopping
Close sounds: the TV playing loudly (ads, then Star Wars music), the cashiers having a conversation, a staff member answering a phone call, the refrigerated items shelf buzzing, the crinkle of the Uncrustable I’m about to buy
Sound description/level: it’s not a busy time for Dutch but there are a handful of other people so it’s a fairly consistent volume in here. Not loud; you can hear the TV from anywhere inside but it’s not overwhelming, and a few people are talking but when they move away I can’t hear them as clearly
One word: supermarket
