The sounds heard in this clip consists of my fan, music playing faintly from my neighbor’s house, distant clanging/beeping, and my housemates talking downstairs.

4/12/2024, 5:29PM. My room

Sounds farthest away from me: cars driving down the street, music playing a few houses down

sounds at medium range: birds chirping outside my window, people walking around the house

sounds closest to me: my fingers tapping the keys on my computer, my stomach growling, my own breathing

The sound level is quiet and the sound activity is consistently low

One word description: peaceful

Essential sounds: Footsteps, cars, birds

Sound Journal April 12th

  1. Maryland, April 12th, 7:00 AM, My friend’s brother’s house

2. Sounds further away from me – birds very quietly chirping, wind hitting trees lightly

3. Sounds medium range – footsteps of someone walking to the bathroom

4. Sounds closest to me – a rooster being loud. (the room I was in is right in front of the backyard where the roosters are)

5. The sound level is pretty low and quiet until every once and a while the rooster makes a loud and abrupt change. Sound activity is pretty low as well, not much is going on besides the rooster

  1. April 10, 2024. 3:11 pm. Basement of Berliner Hall in Astronomy class
  2. Professor speaking to his class in a room down the hall
  3. The sounds of my classmates typing, the fan in the back of the room
  4. My professor lecturing right in front of me (I’m in the front row), my own sniffles because I have a cold. My classmates speaking.
  5. General sound level: low to medium. There is a low amount of activity because there is never more than one person speaking at once.
  6. One word: academic
  7. Essential sounds: Dr. Lacy’s voice, classmates speaking, typing noises.

  1. 04/10/2024 – 12:30pm – Bits Tables.
  2. Sounds farthest away from me: cars driving by, buzzing, the occasional honking.
  3. Sounds at medium range: people talking as they walk by, birds chirping, somebody on a skateboard, the wind.
  4. Sounds closest to me: people talking at the table next to me, typing on my computer keyboard, drink sipping and swirling, bags crunching.
  5. The general sound level is quiet and controlled. The amount of sound activity is constant, with occasional peaks or gaps.
  6. Description word: tranquil.
  7. Essential sounds: nature, people, and general movement.

4/1/24 – 7:48 PM – My Bedroom

Sounds furthest away from me: Train passing by my window, Cars passing by out my window.

Sounds at a medium distance from me: Paw Patrol just beyond my wall and the sound of metal utensils hitting a plate.

Sounds closest to me: The sounds of the keyboard clacking, The fan on my PlayStation running.

The sound level is medium but my little brother starts getting invested in paw patrol he can start screaming so it can very well get louder.

Location: Hofstra Fitness Center Thursday at 7:00 AM on the Track

Sounds furthest from me: the tvs playing the news, a girl on the treadmill running and the treadmill beeping

Sounds medium distance from me: the music faintly playing from the speakers

Sounds closest to me: the echo of my own footsteps, my own breathing

essential sounds: my footsteps and breathing are essential to the overall sound because it establishes how quiet it is that I can hear it. The music faintly playing and the sounds of the treadmill show that there is someone else around besides just me

one word: Calm

sound level: It is quiet. The large gym allows for my footsteps to echo through the gym. It has that early morning “calm before the storm” feeling.
