Hofstra Drama 20 – Sound for the Theatre

1. date/time/location: Tuesday April 3rd/12:30am/ my dorm room
2. farthest sounds: people walking into the bathrooms, the RA on duty checking in on rooms
3. closer sounds: my roommate snoring, the fridge humming
4. closest sounds: my fish swirling the water, my breathing
5. overall sound level: very quite, all that can be heard is static
6. description: silent noise
7. essential sounds: the RA on duty, the fridge humming, my fish swirling the water

The field recording of paint call to go along with my sound journal:

1- Thursday, February 3rd, a friend’s apartment on Front Street.

2- Someone is coughing, and there are firetrucks in the far distance. I can also hear a clock ticking.

3- A dog is trying to open a door with her paw, someone is typing, and the wind is causing the house to creak. Occasionally someone gets up and moves around.
4- There is someone asleep next to me, and they are snoring, and occasionally muttering to themselves. I can hear my stomach growling.
5- It’s very quiet, there isn’t a great deal of noise going on, only the occasional movement of people in the apartment as they come and go to and from class.
6- It feels sleepy.
7- The clock ticking, the house creaking, and the person snoring would be essential to this environment.
