Location: Main Dining Room in Bits and Bytes
Sounds Heard: Clicking (unsure of source), Distant hum of the blender, hum of the toaster, people talking, movement of kitchen equipment
Date: March 8
Time: 6:00 pm
Location: Bits & Bytes
Far Sounds: indistinguishable conversations in the back room, electricity humming, food wrappers rustling.
Medium Sounds: garbled voice speaking over the phone, people talking, chairs scraping across the floor, hands clapping occasionally.
Close Sounds: fan whirring overhead, keyboard clicks, table wobbling, fabric rubbing.
Sound Description/Level: quite consistent, there is a steady drone of voices engaged in different conversations, but they all blur into one another. The other sounds are mere accents dropped in occasionally.
One Word: bustling
Most Important Sounds: people talking, chairs scraping, voice on the phone

- Farthest: kitchen utensils clanking, carts rolling, people talking loudly
- Medium far: a dogs tag jingling, its nails clacking on the ground, snorting like a pig (it was a little bulldog of some sort)
- Closest: someone watching a video loudly, chairs and backpacks shuffling, fingers tapping on keyboards of laptops.
- Overall, the sound heard was minimal. It wasn’t a particularly busy time at bits. Small conversations close by at a medium volume, were the majority of the noise. All the chatter collected to create a white noise.

2- The distant chatter of people far away as they converse. The sound of the doors outside opening and closing. The sound of the grills sizzling a little.
3- Nearby people speaking about this and that. Chairs at tables scraping the ground as people stand.
4- Autumn speaking. Autumn eating cereal.
5- Medium, as it was not that loud, but with a little of activity comprising it.
6- Busy

Sounds Heard: muffled talking from people in the background, water bottle falling over, Meagan clearing her throat, me sighing loudly and then sniffling, Meagan hitting me for reading her texts, me scolding Meagan for hitting me, Richie asking “what the hell”
Bits and Bytes. Lunch time. Students waiting in line for food and talking to their friends while a salad is being made.

– The sound of the kitchen , the sound of people in other parts of the dining hall.

– The TV News Station going blahblahblahblahblah, A man behind me talking
4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you.
– Patrick drinking coffee, Patrick doing his Bits and Bites commercial, Patrick breathing heavily, Me typing, Me gasping for air as I cry.
5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
– The sound level is quiet. There are a few louder noises than others, such as the TV and the man, but its all very still sounding.
6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.
– Classy (because people are being polite and there aren’t many people in general.)
7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.
– The kitchen noise, the TV, Patrick sitting in my booth.
