2/14/13 Hofstra USA, Dinner time on Valentine’s Day

A very clustered and chaotic sound environment.
Feb 13, 7pm, Study Room
Friend gulping water from bottle, giggling because I’m recording her and trying to keep gulping but stops and makes comments, male laughing at her as well
1- Design Studio – 11:50am
2- Cars outside
3- David talking, and other people talking
4- Music playing through headphones
5- The general sound level high and amount of sound activity high
6- Busy
7- Talking, caring passing by, music

During the Intermission between the Midnight Children’s Show.
Talking, and laughing
Having dinner at Olive Garden with my Dad.
Talking, laughter, plates, utensils, silverware on plates, a baby crying and my Dad saying something about sound.

1. Phoenix house Chinese restaurant 5/2/12 8:30 pm
2. The sounds farthest away from me are food sizzling in a pan and a person chopping food.
3. The sounds at a medium range are the cash register opening and people ordering food and talking about the menu.
4. The sounds closest to me are the children of the owners speaking Chinese and running around.
5. The general sound level is loud.
6. I would describe the sound environment as “energetic”.
7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are the food cooking, people ordering food, and the people talking in Chinese. The restaurant is like its own little world.
1. 4/22/12 Internship office
2. The sounds farthest away from me are my two supervisors chatting in their office and the sound of the coffee machine brewing.
3. The sounds at a medium distance from me are a girl coughing, two people talking about Game of Thrones, and people laughing.
4. The sounds closest to me are the girl next to me talking on the phone, people from neighboring cubicles typing, and my stomach growling.
5. The sound level is somewhat low and sporadic.
6. I would describe this sound environment as “engrossed”.
7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are the people typing, the coffee machine brewing, and people talking nearby. Everyone is being productive but having fun at the same time.
Thursday at 6:15 in a Monroe practice room.
You can hear my singing group practicing. We are singing in Hebrew. We are also trying to work in the guitar and some of us really do not remember the music, so it doesn’t sound as good as usual. In the beginning you can also hear a few people talking.
1. April 3rd at 6:20pm during the chocolate Passover Seder
2. The sounds that are furthest away from me are sounds of people talking from the hall.
3. The sounds that are at a medium range from me are a few girls at the end of the table whispering to one another and the sound of someone texting on their phone. From the sound of it, that person was really pressing down hard on those buttons.
4. The sounds that are closest to me are the Rabbi and the students saying one section of the Haggadah (the passover prayer book) in unison.
5. It was very noisy with everyone talking at once and it made me excited for the holidays.

7. The three sounds that are essential to the environment are the students and Rabbi reading in unison, the person texting, and the two girls whispers.
