Location of the clip: Cabaret, Spiegel Theater last night.
Sounds heard in the clip: Myself explaining that it was my sister’s 20th birthday, the Cabaret audience sings “Happy birthday”.
Location: At Cabaret, in the Spiegel Theater this past Wednesday, the 17th of April.
Sounds heard in the clip: Adil Arif and Mark Perkins, the duo called “Gremlin”, singing their original song “I’m Not Gay Just a Little Bit Feminine”. Much audience laughter, hooting and hollering. The loud obnoxious one is probably me.
Location: In the Spiegel during Adil Arif’s act in Cabaret during which he showed us his hidden talent of beatboxing!
Sounds heard: We hear Adil speaking and then beatboxing, lots of “woo’s” and laughter.
1- 3/7/2013-2:18pm-Spiegel Theater
Styles II Class: Stefanie is performing her monologue, Royston has her watch a video on Youtube as she performs.
2- Farthest away: The “rickety-rack” of the vent, Royston’s voice with suggestions.
3- Medium range: Stefanie’s voice as she performs, the video she is listening to on her phone.
4- Sounds closest: The sound of someone chewing gum next to me.
5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: Sound activity and levels are very low, all people speaking are speaking with indoor voices and the gum chewing, vent, and video are sounds that give the room a strange intrusive feeling.
6-One word description to the “sound environment”: Creepy.
7- 3 sounds essential to the sound environment. Gum chewing, vent, background video noises on the phone.
Location: Techie Variety Show, Spiegel Theater.
Sounds: David Henderson playing guitar. (he gave me permission to post)
Also, relevant to the screaming goat sound of the day, watch this if you please:
It’s screaming goat with Les Mis songs. Enjoy.
1- 3/3/13 – 7:18 – Lobby of the Spiegel Theater
2- Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you. – From where I was sitting, the sounds that were furthest from me were the noises of the actors shuffling rehearsal cubes around on stage. There was a very soft and faint sliding noise of the felt pads against the semi-gloss stage floor. As each block hit one of the many imperfections of the stage it would begin to snag and I could hear the small little taps of the wooden blocks against the stage floor. This noise was much deeper and came across as more of a rumble and roll as each piece moved around on stage.
3- Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you. – At a medium range I could hear the noises of one of the audience members on the phone with their relatives trying to explain how to get to the university. I could hear the very faint sound of their voice and could understand only about every other word as they explained how to exit from the turnpike and turn onto California Blvd.
4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you (You can include internal sounds if noticed or relevant). – At the closest range to me, and the one and only noise I could hear from the room I was physically occupying was the hum of my computer overheating as it ran vectorworks and Iphoto all at the same time. The actual noise was the very high-pitched hum of my fan as it spun faster and faster to cool down the machine, the noise was only slightly muted as my computer was resting on my lap and sending the air between the gap in my legs.
5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity. – Each sound that I could hear at this time was a noise that was muted or muffled by another object around me whether it be a door or my jeans. Each and every sound was dampened yet I could clearly pick out an interesting touch and unique quality to each noise even though none of these noises were reaching my ears “unharmed”
6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”. – Suppressed
7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment. Note: you need to try and figure out what sounds make up this environment and which of those sounds need to be there for the feeling of the environment to stay intact. – Thumping of the blocks, hum of the fan, voice from outside
Identify the location of the clip – I recorded this clip in the lobby of the Spiegel just before the beginning of pie night. There was a large group standing around waiting to be let in and someone bumped the lights and made creepy noises.
Identify the sounds heard in the clip – In this clip one can hear the large amount of activity and anticipation that comes in the minutes before a Cabaret night begins in the Spiegel. It begins with a smattering of conversations and yelling across the room and then one can hear the moment in which the lights go out and one student begins to make a rather odd, non humanlike noise that cuts through the room and causes a few people to scream. As people begin to figure out what is going they begin to laugh. Encouraged by laughter, the boy continues to make extreme noises and show everyone this “astonishing” talent he possesses.
