Journal Entry #12 – Barone

  1. Date: 4/16/20 – Time: 10:00pm – Location: My Home (Carmel, NY)
  2. The farthest sounds from me is the downstairs TV playing and my sister talking.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear my dog whining outside my door in the hallway.
  4. The closest sounds from me is my back cracking and my phone ringing.
  5. The general sound level is a bit noisy and the amount of sound activity is medium since there is a substantial amount of noise, but not too much.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is annoying.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is my sister talking, my dog whining, and my phone ringing.

Journal Entry #11

  1. 4/15/2020, 5:30pm, Jones Beach Fishing Piers
  2. Cars speeding in the distance, airplane & wind blowing in the trees.
  3. Car doors slamming, cars starting/shutting off, people talking, and boats cruising by.
  4. Waves crashing along shore, seagulls, & fishing lines being casted.
  5. The sound level is very quiet since I was in a very open space and the sounds were spread apart.  The amount of sound activity was also low since I could easily distinguish a few specific sounds.
  6. Tranquil.
  7. Seawaves, fishing lines, & seagulls.

When & Where: 04/15/2020 12:07am Sitting at my bedroom desk with the window open

Far Sounds: my brother talking downstairs, quiet footsteps

Medium Sounds: wind rustling the trees, my other brother playing video games the next room over, some chatter from him as well

Close Sounds: my loud-*** air filter running, squeaking chair.

General Level: medium

One-word Description: bedroom

Essential Three Sounds: the air filter, squeaky chair, brother talking

Journal Entry #10 – Ferguson

1. Date: 4/11/20 – Time: 11:15am – Location: My Yard

2. Farthest from me, I can hear my neighbors from across the street talking and their car doors being closed.  I can hear the wind constantly blowing through the trees in the backyard.

3. In a medium range, I can hear some cars passing by my house, which includes the sound of a mail truck.  Also, I hear the mailman opening up and shutting several mailboxes along the street.

4. The sounds closest to me include my footsteps and the sound of a metal shovel banging against rocks.  I can hear the bag of mulch being emptied onto the flowerbed as well.

5. The general sound level is rather quiet than noisy since there is only a little amount of sound activity occurring.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “delightful”.

7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the wind blowing through the trees, a metal shovel banging against rocks, and the sound of the mail truck.
