  1. 02/21/2024 – 4:28pm – My House.
  2. Farthest Sounds: the cars on the turnpike, occasional honking, a very faint police siren.
  3. Medium Range Sounds: somebody doing lawn work next door, cars driving by, birds chirping, occasional indiscernible talking.
  4. Closest Sounds: one of my housemates’ playing videos on their phone, one of my housemates cooking in the kitchen, the buzz of our security system, the occasional readjusting of blankets or pillows on the couch that I’m sitting on.
  5. I would describe the general sound level as quiet and static, and the general sound activity as frequent but unpredictable.
  6. Description: cozy.
  7. Essential Sounds: cars, cooking, and phone videos.

February 9th, 10:00PM, Bill of Rights dorm, 10th floor.

Furthest: Cars moving outside on the Hempstead Turnpike, at least 10 stories down from the current location.

Medium: Someone is playing classical music from a speaker in the bathroom next door, shower water running, pipes making a gentle hissing noise.

Closest: Upstairs dorm neighbor is making short thumps, heater creaking and exerting a low hum. Focused, intent breathing coming from me.

Sound level is generally soft and muffled. The amount of sound activity is somewhat limited, the room being confined to faint sounds of machinery amid far away driving and muted classical music.

One Word Description: Subdued.

Essential Sounds:

  1. Heater humming
  2. Music playing from speaker inside the bathroom
  3. Cars outside

1. Date: 4/11/20 – Time: 11:15am – Location: My Yard

2. Farthest from me, I can hear my neighbors from across the street talking and their car doors being closed.  I can hear the wind constantly blowing through the trees in the backyard.

3. In a medium range, I can hear some cars passing by my house, which includes the sound of a mail truck.  Also, I hear the mailman opening up and shutting several mailboxes along the street.

4. The sounds closest to me include my footsteps and the sound of a metal shovel banging against rocks.  I can hear the bag of mulch being emptied onto the flowerbed as well.

5. The general sound level is rather quiet than noisy since there is only a little amount of sound activity occurring.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “delightful”.

7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the wind blowing through the trees, a metal shovel banging against rocks, and the sound of the mail truck.
