  •  A car drives by the window
  • A dog barking in the distance
  • Sirens from a firetruck as it drives by

  • The blower in the room, blowing cool air
  • Niki, my roommate, clicking at his keyboard
  • Niki, turning pages of his textbook

4 – Identify and list the sounds closest to you.

  • The click of my neck as I turn my head
  • Me clicking my laptop keys
  • Someone knocking at the door (My bed is right near the door)

5 – Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.

  • The sound level in the room is very low.  Niki and I are both tired, so we are both sitting in silence as we do our work. Sound activity in the room is at a medium range, with all the sounds being heard are soft and hushed

6 – Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.

  • Serene

7 – Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.

  • The blower
  • The cars driving by the window
  • The turning of the pages

  •  The television I left on in the other room for my cat
  • Wind rustling outside
  • The sink water running

  • My mom’s mouse clicking at the computer
  • My brother’s television on
  • My brother moving around something in his room

  • My boyfriend breathing
  • The pressing of the  keys on my laptop
  • Television #3 playing something that I dont understand

5 – Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
The sound level is at a medium but the amount of sound activity is definitely high. Everyone is doing their own thing in my house and most of the electronics we own are on.

1. 3/13/14, 8:40pm, Constitution Laundry Room

2. Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.
Someone sending a text message on their phone, the elevator beeping.

3. Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.
The sound of the washers and dryers spinning. Wet clothes hitting up against the dryer. A conversation between two girls.

4. Identify and list the sounds closest to you.
My wet clothes being thrown into the dryer, my shoes shuffling along the tile.

5. Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
There is a lot of sounds going on all at once. It is very noisy and exciting, but it is also rather relaxing at the same time.

6. Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.
Busy.

7. Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.
Sound of the washer and dryer spinning, wet clothes being thrown into the dryer, and the conversation between the two girls.

-Someone yelling free waffles

-Noah saying “sound class recording”
-Automatic doors opening

-This room is extremely loud. Apparently this free waffle event is very exciting because nearly everyone in the room is excited and loud. It is almost deafening.

-Wild

-Hip hop music
-“FREE WAFFLES”
-People yelling

1 – 3/13/14 – 5:45pm – Northern State Parkway

2 – Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.
-Someone sounding their car horn as another driver cuts in front of them.
-The tires of a car squealing.

-3 – Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.
-The back door locks clicking shut.
-Something sliding in the trunk.
-The car’s engine running smoothly.

4 – Identify and list the sounds closest to you.
-The directionals clicking on and off.
-The DJ speaking on the radio to his audience.
-The car heater circulating air loudly and quickly.

5 – Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
-The car ride home was pretty loud with different sounds happening all at once. The car heater and radio are what provided most of the loudness, while sounds such as the directionals and car horn simply add to the sound level and activity.

6 – Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.
-Mechanical.

7 – Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.
-The engine running.
-The clicking of the directionals.
-The car horn.

Location: NYC Subway Tunnel

Sounds Heard: You can hear the sounds of the trumpet and drummer as they’re making music in the tunnel. You can hear the sound of the music as it echos off the walls of the tunnel and bounces around. You can also hear the sound of my friend talking about Tori Kelly and giggling.
