Hofstra Drama 20 – Sound for the Theatre

Sounds heard: distant voices and laughter, plastic containers opening, rustling and clanking of items on the metal table, light breeze, birds chirping.

Location: Hofstra University, just outside Emily Lowe Hall

Sounds Heard: the Hofstra shuttle breaking then passing by, the Hofstra gardeners raking the leaves

• Socks rustling against the carpeted floor
• Feet being put on the floor
• Shifting against the bed frame and blanket
• A quick knock against the bed frame
• A scrape against the wall
• Nicole stepping off of the bed and walking toward the door
• Nicole turning the door handle 
• The door popping open and creaking
• The door clicking back into place

• Music playing from a speaker, muffled by the blanket
• The crinkling of pieces of paper
• Talking from all around the fire pit
• The crack of the lighter repeating throughout
• The whoosh of the fire starting back up
• Laughter from all sides

• Water Rushing from the Sink
• Wooden scrubber brush handle repeatedly hitting the edge of a metal pan
• Faint sound of someone talking in the distance
• The wooden handle being tapped against the pan
• The pan being put down on the metal drying rack

Sounds Heard:

• Dryer tumbling clothes
• Michelle typing on laptop
• Bathroom fan being turned on 
• Bathroom fan whirring to a stop
• Avery abruptly waking from a nap and Michelle laughing about it

Location and Time: May 16th, 3:53 pm. Downstairs bathroom 

Sounds heard: Whirring of the bathroom fan, The toilet water flowing in the tank, the refrigerator door opening and closing, a pan being moved on the stove, the bathroom door being nudged

Location: The breakfast nook, 4:50pm

Sounds Heard:

• Lighter igniting
• Someone breathing out smoke
• Coughing
• Lighter getting put down on table
• Giggling

Location: Practice room in the basement of Monroe

Sounds heard:

• Clarinet in the distance
• My computer playing interval practice files
• Piano bench creaking 

Location: Kitchen, April 29th, 7:10 pm

Sounds Heard:

• Door closing
• Washing machine tumbling clothes 
• Bedroom door opening and closing
• Someone crinkling a plastic bag (?) upstairs
• Refrigerator door opening
• Jar being placed on the kitchen table
