Journal Entry #3 Mornings

Christian
1. 2/17/2012 8:00am 1208 Estabrook.
2. The sound of cars zooming along on the turnpike, a garbage truck makes its “backing up” noises. In the farthest distance, the sound of a plane flying away. (The pitch is moving down)
3. The sound of dressers opening and closing, a few keyboard clicks from my roommates computer as he checks his email in the morning. The sound of cloth against skin as a shirt is put on. The sounds of bags rustling and the crack of a plastic water bottle.
4. The sound of a computer hum, mixed with the ambient sound of a heater on low. My computer keyboard.
5. The sound environment is generally dominated by silence, with each sound happening almost one by one, the occasional car, the occasional keyboard clicks, the loudest sound at any time is the sound of a dresser closing.
6. Mornings.
7. The sounds of the dressers would be one of the most important, with the bag zipper sound and the clothing against the skin, those are pretty much the essentials to communicate the story of mornings.

2)Door opening and closing, footsteps of people entering, outside noises from the door being open, the hums of the coolers

3)Feet shuffling from the counter to the service station. Two girls talking about their vacation plans, beeps from their cell phones, the sounds of stirring iced drinks.

4) The clicking of my laptop keyboard, vibrating of my cell phone, my own breathing

5) All of the sounds are fairly subtle. They seem like just sounds of existance rather than anything in particualar standing out.

6) relaxing

7) The hum of the coolers, clicking of ice in the cups, the opening of the door, my own breathing

Journal Entry #3

1) Thursday February 16th, 2012 -2p.m. – Cafe on the Quad

2) Furthest away from me were conversations between couples and doors opening and closing, while the doors were open, wind could be heard and general outside noise (talking, footsteps, and wind in the trees) for a couple of seconds.

3) At medium range, there were more conversations, whipped cream being whipped and coffee/expresso machines steaming.

4) Sounds closest to me was the girl next to me playing her ipod really loudly with headphones on and a whistling sound when I blew into my coffee cup to cool it down.

5) The general sound level was loud, but still comfortable; and there was much activity.

6) Engaged.

7)Three sounds necessary for recreation are the doors, the chatting, and the expresso machine.

2- The sound of footsteps down the hallway
3- The music coming from the big speakers, the fan, pencils swiping across the page, and laptops typing
4- My own typing, my own pencil swiping across the page, the sound of chewing
5- Low to medium sound level.
6- Productive

Sound Journal 3

1- 2012-02-16 – 10:45 PM – Sitting at the top of the North staircase in Emily Lowe

2- Wind moving across the sky outside the window, Rain pattering on the roof, the window, and the sidewalk outside.

3- Unidentifiable music from one of the dance studios downstairs.  The front door(s) opening and closing.  One person walks down the hall.  Music playing in the design studio.

4- My computer fan, the water fountain in the hall rattling.

5- There isn’t much going on, the building is getting ready for the end of the night.  Except for the door and the person walking, all the noises are rather ambient and unfocused – the rain is little more than white noise, while the music is not distinct enough to really mean anything.

6- “Muted”

7- The muted music, the rain on the window, and the rattle of the water fountain.
