Sound Journal #10

1- Saturday, April 5th, 2014, 2:45am, Union Square.

2- Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.

Cars driving by, murmurs of conversations, yelling of people in the farmers market.

3- Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.

People playing musical instruments, singing, dogs barking, cars beeping.

4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you (You can include internal sounds if noticed or relevant). My friend talking to me, people waling by, the sound of my jacket swishing againt itself.

5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.

The sound level is constant and very noisy, the activity is exciting and lots of sounds over one another.

6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.

Exciting

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment. Note: you need to try and figure out what sounds make up this environment and which of those sounds need to be there for the feeling of the environment to stay intact.

2. Identify the sounds farthest from you:

> Cars passing on distant streets
> Thunder overhead
> A single bird down the street

3. Identify the sounds at medium range from you:

> A person throws trash out of their houses back door
> Wind rustles leaves of a tree
> Rain hitting the pavement

4. Identify the sounds closest to you:

> My footsteps
> My breathing
> The jingling of my various zippers

5. Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity:

The sound level is low and the amount of activity is low. It is late, all the animals are tired, and the rain is not helping anybody to want to go outside.

6. Assign one word to describe the sound environment

Slipery

7. Select three sounds essential to the environment:

Rain on Pavement
Trees rustling
Thunder

  • Cars outside in the parking lot
  • Footsteps on the side walk
  • An airplane outside

3. Identify the sounds at medium range from you:

  • Music coming from Room 108
  • People talking loudly in the hall

4. Identify the sounds closest to you:

  • Matt and Maggie talking behind me
  • Cindy texting on her phone
  • Justin playing on his 3DS

5. Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity:

The sound level is pretty low but the activity is fairly high due to the music from 108 and the people talking in the hall

6. Assign one word to describe the sound environment

  • Music from 108
  • People talking in the hall
  • Cindy texting

Sounds Heard: muffled talking from people in the background, water bottle falling over, Meagan clearing her throat, me sighing loudly and then sniffling, Meagan hitting me for reading her texts, me scolding Meagan for hitting me, Richie asking “what the hell”

My Room, Centereach
I start off the clip by grabbing and moving a few of my Yu-Gi-Oh card boxes toward me. I open up a Deck box and start flipping through some of the cards. Lastly, I set the cards down and plop my card binder in front of me and begin to flip through its pages.

Sound Journal #9

1 – 4/3/14 – 4:00pm – Outside Emily Lowe

2 – Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.
-The opening and closing of Emily Lowe’s doors.
-The footsteps of students walking down the stairs and onto the sidewalk.
-Other students talking while they play catch with a football.

3 – Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.
-My friends’ cheers as they successfully throw and pass the Frisbee around.
-The clacking sound the Frisbee makes when as it hits a few tree branches.

4 – Identify and list the sounds closest to you.
-My feet thumping on the grass as I run.
-The rustling of the bushes as the Frisbee flies into them.
-The whoosh of air as I throw the Frisbee.

5 – Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
-The sound level was pretty loud outside Emily Lowe. There was never a minute where someone wasn’t goofing around and enjoying each other’s company.  All of the sounds were occurring within moments of each other.

6 – Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.
-Fun.

7 – Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.
-My friends cheering.
-The initial whooshing of the air.
-The thumping of my feet.
