Farthest: cars passing, mechanical humming, some talking and laughing

Medium: train horn, police sirens

Closest: people talking, car horn, car engine revving, tires on pavement with rocks, sliding door opening and closing

Sound Level: low

Description: disruptive

Essential sounds: cars passing, door opening, train horn

  1. Location: 2/14/19, 6:30pm, Student Center
  2. Farthest Sounds: beeping sounds from kiosks, food workers talking, coffee machine at Starbucks, footsteps
  3. Medium sounds: forks/silverware being dispensed, people in conversation, laughter, metal chairs moving
  4. Closest sounds: fizz of soda inside bottle, music playing through headphones, people eating their food near me, backpacks unzipping, person speaking on the phone
  5. The sound level is medium, it’s the dinner hour so more people are coming into the student center to get food and meet up with friends
  6. One word description: casual
  7. Three essential sounds: kiosk beeping, food workers talking, metal chairs moving

Sounds Farthest Away: Trash being thrown away, mild footsteps.

Sounds Medium Range: People chatting at tables, shuffling of feet.

Sounds Close Range: People performing, people laughing, TV blaring.

The general sound level is high, large level of sound activity.

One-word Description: Raucous.

Thursday, February 7, 2019 6:30 pm Kitchen, Vanderpoel Hall

-Far: sirens

-Medium: wind against the building, people talking in the lounge, indistinct television noise

-Close: radiator running, someone typing at the kitchen table, tap running, water boiling

-Sound Level: medium, there’s sound all over the place, from all sides, but it doesn’t feel oppressive

-One Word: lively

-Essential Sounds: people talking, water boiling, television in the background

  2. Farthest: Cars, main road
  3. Medium: The wind through my window, my mother making breakfast, my hot water boiling (for my French Press)
  4. Close: Birds, Music playing off my computer, my breathing
  5. Sound Level: Low: Most noise that I could hear, or was paying attention to was in my room or right outside my window
  6. One word: Tranquil

2/7/2019; 1:00 A.M.; Bedroom

Farthest Sounds: Distant cars, sirens, planes

Medium sounds: The wind, the window blind blowing in the wind and hitting the window

Closest sounds: Snoring, door creaking due to wind passing through room, radiator clanging.

General sound level: quiet to a point that rides the line of calm and eerie

One word: suspicious

Sounds Farthest away: Piano playing, voices talking behind closed doors, air blowing from somewhere.

Medium-Range Sounds: Crunching from eating granola, talking from opened doors, footsteps.

Close-Range Sounds: Door to Lowe Hall banging open and closed, people talking in the hallway, a backpack being zipped up.

General sound level is kind of loud, though it usually relies on how many doors are being opened at one time. Fair amount of sound activity.

One-Word Description: Immense.

Essential Sounds: Doors closing, people talking in the hallway, footsteps.

  2. Farthest sounds: car horns beeping, breeze in the distance, cars driving by/accelerating, sirens
  3. Medium sounds: car engine running, trees rustling, faint voices as people walk by, brakes screeching, car door closing
  4. Closest sounds: keyboard typing, exhaling, music playing
  5. Sound level is high, it’s a busy street so there’s a lot of noise everywhere through the sounds of travel taking place
  6. One word description: active
  7. Three essential sounds: tires on pavement, whoosh of wind as cars drive by, car brakes

-Farthest sounds: cars on Oak Street, wind against the building

-Medium sounds: the chime of the elevator, the people moving around on the floor above, door slamming at the other end of the hall, girls talking in the room next door

-Closest sounds: fingers on a keyboard, the hum of the fridge, my roommate crunching on Cheezits, foot tapping on the floor

Sound level: relatively quiet, but I can feel everyone in the building around me

One word: domestic
