Automatic door oopening and closing, garbage cans being pushed, food carts being pushed

– The TV news, the gate opening and closing to the food area

– My laptop playing music, my fingers typing

5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.

-Its a large room so the sound gets echoed and spread out a little everywhere, the sound level increases tas the time gets later and more chatter is heard

6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.

– Busy

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.

– TV, Carts being pushed, People talking

1. 4/22/12  Internship office

2. The sounds farthest away from me are my two supervisors chatting in their office and the sound of the coffee machine brewing.

3. The sounds at a medium distance from me are a girl coughing, two people talking about Game of Thrones, and people laughing.

4. The sounds closest to me are the girl next to me talking on the phone, people from neighboring cubicles typing, and my stomach growling.

5. The sound level is somewhat low and sporadic.

6. I would describe this sound environment as “engrossed”.

7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are the people typing, the coffee machine brewing, and people talking nearby.  Everyone is being productive but having fun at the same time.

Inside Bits & Bites

2-kitchen noises from the burger place in the back, cashier ringing up food.
3- Conversation around the building, general food noises
4- The Peoples’s Court, Rain, ceiling fan above my head
5- It’s not busy in there, but the people are still rather loud for how many there are.  There is nobody sitting especially nearby so there is a bit of distance from it all, except for the TV.

DATE-TIME-LOCATION of the sound environment

– Sit, close eyes and allow the sounds around you to envelope you, listen for all of the sound in your environment.

2- Siren, Construction
3- Traffic, people walking, talking, running, cycling.
4- My girlfriend talking about something unimportaint
5- The place is busy— not the bustle of New York, and not even the energy of some of the streets, but there a lot of people moving around, visiting the Smithsonian and enjoying the beautiful Easter Monday.

7- Construction, #Allofthepeople, Girlfriend.

Journal Entry

1. April 19th at 11:45pm at the movie theatre in Westbury

2. The sounds furthest from me are people whispering and footsteps

3.  The sounds that are at medium range to me are the sounds of people chomping on popcorn, giggling, and the sound of bags crinkling

4. The sounds that are closest to me are the videos before the previews playing on the screen and the person sitting next to me is having a conversation with the person next to her.

5.  The sound level I would say is a medium range.  There is a lot going on and people want to get their conversations in before the movie starts and people are still getting situated.

6. Entertained

7.  Sound of people chomping on popcorn, the previews before the previews playing on the screen, and giggling.

–  People chatting, loud  DJ music, clapping, people wooing

– Louder DJ Music, People chatting at me, hands clapping & people wooing

4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you.

– Extrememly loud DJ music, the brazilian team song,  hands clapping, wooing between performances, people asking me to take their photos, my voice, my breathing

5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.

– Extremely loud and a lot of different layers of sound coming from the DJ mixed in with a lot of people talking.

6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.

– Hyper

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.

– Talking, Loud DJ Music, Clapping

1. 4/12/12 North Shore Animal Shelter

2. The sounds farthest away from me are older dogs barking and volunteer workers shouting dogs’ names to try to make them behave.

3. The sounds at a medium range from me are people talking to the puppies and kittens in baby talk and families discussing the animals.

4. The sounds closest to me are younger dogs barking and my boyfriend talking to an employee about a type of dog he sees.

5. The sound level is extremely loud.

6. I would describe this sound environment as “energetic”.

7. Three essential sounds to the sound environment are the dogs barking, people talking to the dogs, and the employees giving information. People seem to be enjoying their visit.

3-The actors talking backstage, people talking in the audience.

4- My phone ringing, Chloe speaking next to me, my chair squeaking as I shift weight.

5- Sound level is low and the sound activity is minimal.

6- Anticipation.

7- The humming, the audience talking, the chair squeaking.
