Republic Hall Dorm Room, quiet afternoon
I had just walked in on my friend playing around with different chords on the guitar. If you listen very closely in the beginning, you can hear another another person entering the room with a soft greeting and falling silent. I liked this clip because though the strumming and chord changes are not perfect, the sounds seem to wander aimlessly and yet coincide beautifully with the notes that come before and after creating a coesive progression.

Location: Social Sports Kitchen — February 17, 2013, 6:33 pm

Sounds Heard: I am taking a lap around the interior of the restaurant/sports bar in which I work, starting first in the dining room, in which the raucous voices of the men who decided to stay and get drunk after the Hofstra Wrestling Team’s Poker Tournament can be heard cheering and carrying on loudly.  About halfway through the sound bite, my shoes can be heard on the wooden floor, as the noise dies down abruptly with my transition into the kitchen (the door of which can be heard).  I make my way past Elvis, the bar back, (apologizing for getting in his way) as a kitchen staff member moves a rack of clean silverware.  I complete my loop by pushing through a swinging door and reentering the main room of the bar, at which point the inebriated patrons can be heard once again.

Location: To continue with the theme of amazing subway singers, here is another clip of a different subway session.

Sounds heard: The “ding dong” of the subway doors opening and closing. Singer with guitar, everybody singing, loud laughter, other guy rapping, whizzing and honking of the train, murmur of people talking, uproarious applause.

On the 23rd, my friends and I went bowling at AMR Meadow Brook Lanes, so this is a sound recording of part of the night.

In the clip, you can hear some pop song playing, people talking and laughing, pins being knocked over, bowling balls rolling, and my friend Brian swearing to mess the sound clip up.

Identify the location of the clip – This recording was taken in the studio one night while working on a design project for 179.
Identify the sounds heard in the clip – There is one principal noise that is found in this sound recording, the noise of my watercolor paper wiggling around as I shake it. I discovered the noise as I was cutting out a sheet 300lb paper for my set rendering. I was carrying the sheet back to my desk and kind of shook the paper in my hand and discovered that as the paper bent back and forth it made this very unique and intriguing sound. If you listen to the entire clip you can hear my shaking the cut out piece for a while then set it down and then grab the larger, scrap sheet and begin to do the same thing to see if there was any difference in noise; it was only slightly lower and deeper sounding.
