Date, Time, Location: 3/19/20, Around noon, Outside of Bill of Rights

Farthest away: cars driving by, horns honking

Medium range: Doors opening, bins rolling, people talking

Closest Range: My brother talking to me, bin rolling, cart rolling, me breathing, things in the bin moving around.

Sound Level: quiet compared to the normal atmosphere

One word description: depressing

Journal Entry #8 – Barone

  1. Date: 3/19/20 – Time: 8:00pm – Location: My Home (Carmel, NY)
  2. The farthest sounds from me is the downstairs TV playing and my sister singing.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear my mom talking down the hallway.
  4. The closest sounds from me is my TV playing and my bed creaking as I move around on it.
  5. The general sound level is intermediate and the amount of sound activity is sporadic since all sounds are being made separately.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is active.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is my sister singing, my mom talking, and my bed creaking.

When & Where: 03/19/2020 6:10pm My dad’s new house

Far Sounds: Cars parking behind the house and driving in the road

Medium Sounds: Crunching, talking, video game noises from the TV, buttons and joysticks on a controller

Close Sounds: The electric whirring of a refridgerator, chair squeaks

General Level: low

One-word Description: homely

Journal Entry #7 – Ferguson

1. Date: 3/10/20 – Time: 4:00pm – Location: My Dormitory

2. Farthest away from me, I can hear a couple of people talking in the hallway, as well as the stairwell door being slammed shut.

3. In a medium range, I can hear my air conditioning unit constantly blowing out air.  Also, I hear noises coming from the television.

4. The sounds closest to me include me laughing and breathing.  I can hear the many different noises coming from my phone too.

5. The general sound level is quiet due to the fact that many other students on my floor already left for Spring Break.  However, there is still a good amount of sound activity occurring in my dorm.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “lonely”.

7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the a/c unit blowing out air, noise coming from the television, and the stairwell door being slammed shut.

Farthest Sound- Nothing at the moment, all of the house has left except for my roommate, myself, and two other people.

Medium Distance- As I right this the wind is howling against my window making ti whistle with the gaps.

Closest Distance- The A/C unite in my room and the flutter of rustling papers on the wall, and my roommate giggling.

Sound Description- peaceful and tranquil.

Important Sounds- The A/C, my roommates laughter
