2/22/2018 Costume Shop in Lowe 5:30 pm

hum of the sewing machines, the faint sound of Billy Joel on spotify, the washers on in the maintenance room, Ozzie’s whimper from Meredith’s desk.

classmates talking, professors giving instructions, costumes being hung back up on the rack, scissors chomping on the fabric

my himark and needle pulling through each stitch, my audible gasps overtime I poke myself with the needle

the room in my opinion is soothing, there is a perfect whit noise aspect to it

peaceful

The hum of the sewing machines, the scissors cutting away at fabric, the noise my needle and thread make as it pulls through the fabric.

1. February 1st, 1:40 PM, Vander Poel Floor 2 Hallway

2. Farthest- a door is slamming, toilet is flushing

3. Medium- the elevator ding, and a shower is running

4. Closest- voices, air running

5. Sound Level- pretty low sound level, sounds were consistent except for certain sounds such as door and toilet that broke the peaceful hum.

6. One word- soothing

7. Three essential sounds- air running, shower and elevator ding

1. The Psibrary, Thursday, March 27, 2014, 5:30 pm

2. Identify the sounds furthest from you: I believe there’s some dance class going on right now because I can very faintly hear the vibrations of music.

3. Identify the sounds at a medium range to you: Pedro, Laura, Corinne and others are laughing and watching YouTube videos in the lounge. The door to Lowe slams shut. High heels stomp down the hallway.

4. Identify the sounds closest to you: Abbie is sitting at the desk, listening to soft jazzy music and singing along very softly. The sound of her voice is soothing and offsets the chaos in the lounge. She’s talking to Phil and me about Tumblr. Phil starts to play a video on YouTube and it conflicts with the soft music from Abbie’s computer.

5. The general sound level/activity: It’s about medium, with the undertones of the music being played in either 108 or 106. The soft music from Abbie, and the uproar of the lounge.

6. Word to describe sound environment: Jazzy.

7. The three sounds that complete the sound environment:
— Abbie’s soft music
— Laughing in the lounge
— Undertones of music from dance class

1- 02/17/2013-9:52 AM- On the Bolt Bus from NYC to Boston.

2- Sounds farthest away: Whizzing of cars passing by outside.

3- Sounds at a medium range: Light rattling of the bus, sounds like a baby’s toy. Very light whisper of women’s voices, one woman’s pronunciation of s’s is very predominant.

4- Sounds closest: Constant low hum of the bus, sounds like a propeller at times beating at a 2/4 rhythm. Soft rustling when my head moves to get comfortable in the seat. It is so calm I can hear myself inhale and exhale.

5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: Sound level is very low and sound activity is calm and tranquil. There are maybe about five people on the bus and it is an easy early morning.

6- One word description to the “sound environment”: Soothing.

7- 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.: Constant low hum of the bus, light whisper of women’s voices, inhalations and exhalations.
