Hofstra Drama 20 – Sound for the Theatre

1- Hofstra USA, Thursday, April 10th,  9:00 PM

2- Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.

• The woman at the front taking orders
• The TV’s in the back playing a reality show
• The front door slamming shut

3- Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.

• Assorted conversations from the table over
• The door of the trash can slamming
• The buzzers from a nearby table vibrating

4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you (You can include internal sounds if noticed or relevant).

• My friend playing with her keys
• Emily’s pager buzzing to tell her that her food is ready
• My stomach growling
• Christina tapping her fingers on the table

5- Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.

Per usual, HofUSA is very busy at this time of night. Because of this, the sound level is very high. The sound activity is also very high, as there are so many different and varied noises being made.

6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment. Note: you need to try and figure out what sounds make up this environment and which of those sounds need to be there for the feeling of the environment to stay intact.
