Journal Entry #1

  1. February 6th, 2025 – Living room in my house
  2. Sounds farthest away: Light rain outside the window, cars driving by outside and water running in the upstairs shower
  3. Sounds medium range: My roommates teacher talking on Zoom through their computer speaker, radiator humming/whistling and music playing through my roommates phone speaker
  4. Sounds closet: My keyboard clicking as I type, my roommate talking to me/fidgeting their body and my own breathing 
  5. The general sound level is quite high with many different types of sounds. Since I live with 6 other people there are sounds coming from all around the house that correlate to different activities. I am also sitting with someone so their noise level is much higher in comparison to the rest.
  6. One word description of the “sound environment”: lively 
  7. Music playing in another room through a phone speaker, radiator humming and miscellaneous talking

Student Center Court Yard

Far sounds: music, birds chirping, a door opening

Medium sounds: hum of the air conditioning from inside, a man hitting drum sticks on his legs

Close sounds: friends talking, friends biting into food, Kim’s fork stabbing into her pasta, Michael DeRosa singing
