Sound Journal 2

Location: School of Communication room 117, February 8, 2018, 8:34PM.

Sounds Farthest: people talking, projector screen turning on, phone ringing.

Midrange : people laughing, computer typing.

Sounds closets: person jotting notes, bottle of water being drank, squeaky shoes.

Sound Level: medium intensity, rather calm and inviting environment.

Description: relaxing

Sounds Essential to Environment: people laughing, talking, and computer typing.

Journal Entry # 12

 

1- 04/26/13-12:07AM–My house, Eliza’s room.

2- Sounds farthest away from you: Cars passing by outside, sounds very very faint. If I weren’t specifically concentrating on the sounds far away I would not notice their presence in the soundscape.

3- Sounds at medium range: The song “I’ll Slip Away” by Rodriguez.

4- Sounds closest to you:  Stef, Chris and Eliza talking and laughing loudly.

5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: Sound activity is very loud. We are all telling stores and laughing and listening to music at a pretty high volume.

6- One word description to the “sound environment”: Boisterous.

7-  3 sounds essential to the sound environment: Loud laughter, talking and “I’ll Slip Away”.

Journal Entry 12

1. April 25, 4:00 pm, the quad outside Emily Lowe

2. Wheels on a bag rolling across the sidewalk, traffic from the turnpike

3. Keys jangling, people talking, playhouse doors opening and closing

4. Footsteps on grass, people talking and laughing, wind in the tree branches

5. High energy. Loud and excited, but also oddly soothing and comforting. Not so loud as to be unpleasant.

6. Fun.

1. April 4, 11:07 pm, 7th floor of Vander Poel

2. Radiator hum, door opening down the hall

3. Music from friend’s laptop, talking, laughter, shoes tapping on floor

4. Keyboard, waterbottle

5. The sound level is fluctuating. There are short bursts of increased volume, only for it to quiet down soon after.
