FEBRUARY 12, 2021 3:20PM

LOCATION: My boyfriend’s kitchen

FARTHEST SOUNDS: Cars driving up and down the street, wind whistling, sound of the shower dripping in the bathroom down the hall, the neighbors outside leaving their house and getting into their vehicle.

MEDIUM SOUNDS: The gurgle of a bong being ripped in the far corner of the room, the hum of the refrigerator.

CLOSEST SOUNDS: My fingers typing on the keyboard, the low hum of my laptop, Harrison typing on his computer, Ray and Cam chatting and laughing about Tik Tok, the ice rattling in my iced tea glass when I go for a sip.

SOUND DESCRIPTION/LEVEL: Loud, but not overpowering. It’s a casual environment with friends who have commanding laughs.

IMPORTANT SOUNDS: The vibrato in Ray’s voice when he tells Cam “Noooooooooo” to some silly joke he made. Harrison quietly giggling as he is not fully present in the conversation, but catching the tail end of the joke. The sound of Ray’s socks shuffling across the floor as he casually dances around the kitchen telling us about how we got to file our taxes. The sound of the heater turning on – THANK GOD!

Top 3 Sounds: Laughter, typing, bong rip

Location: At a table in Bits and Bytes by the large window.

Farthest Sounds: The electronic sound of a voice coming from a phone or a computer, followed by loud joyous laughter, clearly an important person in their life. Although not in person, they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Medium Sounds: Other students eating and conversing amongst themselves, enjoying the moment that they are spending together. Laughing and spreading shared memories, truly the positive signs from a beautiful friendship.

Closest Sounds: A plastic bottle of cherry coke opening and garlic covered pizza being eaten, followed by smacking lips. Breathing and enjoyment of the meal before them, a brief pause in time for the calm amongst them

Sound Description / Level: Loud, but not deafening, above average but in separate private bubbles of sound.

Important Sounds: The heater behind gives a constant vibrating hum, while in front of me I can hear the sizzle of slabs of meat hitting the grill, which can easily make an empty stomach growl on it’s own. The sizzling is accompanied by the whir of a fan attempting to tame the heat from this blazing beast. The thrusting noise of a blender destroying it’s contents and making a delicious blend.

Location: At my desk in my dorm bedroom

Farthest Sounds: wind rustling trees and the not very nice fence outside my window, the heater in the other room being ungodly, occasional planes, other residents of the house moving furniture and flushing the toilets

Medium Sounds: My heater blowing air and making occasional but pretty loud cranking noises

Closest Sounds: My desk fan, “Familiarity” by Punch Brothers playing ever so softly, my clock ticking — I hear it just because I know it’s there, the sound is pretty much covered by the heat in my room which can be unforgivably loud compared to the quieter sounds and white noise

Sound Description / Level: mostly white noise — quiet

Important Sounds: the heater cracking, the desk fan running, the furniture moving flushing of toilets by the other house residents
