Journal Entry #8

1. 3/21/12  Movie theater screening of Casablanca  7:00pm

2. The sounds farthest away from me are people asking if seats are open and constant chatter and conversation.

3. The sounds at a medium range from me are people crinkling bags of popcorn and grabbing pieces and seats squeaking as they are opened.

4. The sounds closest to me are the advertisemnets playing loudly on the screen and a person opening some kind of plastic wrapper or candy somewhere very close to where I’m sitting.

5. The general sound level is very loud, and the sound activity is heavy.

6. I would describe this sound environment as “cacophonous”.

7. Three sounds essential to the sound environment are people eating out of bags of popcorn, the advertisements playing, and constant talking while waiting for the movie.  These are all symbolic of being at the movie theater.
