Journal Entry #10 – Ferguson

1. Date: 4/11/20 – Time: 11:15am – Location: My Yard

2. Farthest from me, I can hear my neighbors from across the street talking and their car doors being closed.  I can hear the wind constantly blowing through the trees in the backyard.

3. In a medium range, I can hear some cars passing by my house, which includes the sound of a mail truck.  Also, I hear the mailman opening up and shutting several mailboxes along the street.

4. The sounds closest to me include my footsteps and the sound of a metal shovel banging against rocks.  I can hear the bag of mulch being emptied onto the flowerbed as well.

5. The general sound level is rather quiet than noisy since there is only a little amount of sound activity occurring.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “delightful”.

7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the wind blowing through the trees, a metal shovel banging against rocks, and the sound of the mail truck.

Farthest Sound- The clanking off bottles outside and crushing gravel as people walk around and talk, cars passing by on the road.

Medium Distance- The. muffled yet familiar soul of the Suite life of Zach and Cody theme song as my roommate watches it in the living room. He laughter follows soon after.

Closest Distance- The sound of my roommates in their room, and the typing of my key board. 

Sound Description- Like its summer vacation in 2012. So timeless.

Important Sounds- The tv show, the bottles, the laughter 

Journal Entry #11 – Barone

  1. Date: 4/9/20 – Time: 10:00pm – Location: My Home (Carmel, NY)
  2. The farthest sounds from me is the downstairs TV playing and the washing machine going.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear my brother’s laptop playing in his room.
  4. The closest sounds from me is my fingers tapping on my desk and me cracking my neck.
  5. The general sound level is more quiet than loud and the amount of sound activity is minimal since the sounds aren’t too loud.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is smooth.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is the washing machine going, my brother’s laptop, and my neck cracking.

Date, Time, Location: 4/9/20, 7pm, My bedroom

Farthest away: my mom and dad coming home, dog barking, car locking

Medium range: garage opening, brother’s tv playing a show, dog ringing bells to be let out, ring making the tone that someone is in the driveway

Closest: tapping on a keyboard, saying goodbye to a friend over facetime, the hang up tone on facetime

sound level: quieter than normal

one word description: home

3 essential sounds: garage opening, ring making the noise, dog barking

  2. Cars outside driving by, the wind, & music playing in the backroom.
  3. Door opening/closing, doorbell, car door slamming, & car starting. 
  4. Fridge door opening/closing, credit card machine beep, & cash drawer opening/closing. 
  5. The sound level is low and relaxed.  There were no sounds that were loud and ear-piercing.  The amount of sound activity was moderate since there were sounds happening at the same time, but could still be pointed out.

When & Where:  04/07/2020 2:11pm Sitting at a table near an open door to my porch

Far Sounds: birds chirping, insects buzzing, someone pouring out water, leaves blowing in the wind, people chatting on the street

Medium Sounds: the TV in another room, my mom walking around, the laundry machine running, a radio

Close Sounds: Keyboard typing, footsteps, chairs and stools squeaking on wood

General Level: low

One-word Description: relaxed

Essential Three Sounds: distant nature sounds, the quiet radio playing, wood squeaking

Journal Entry #9 – Ferguson

1. Date: 4/3/20 – Time: 3:00pm – Location: My Bedroom

2. Farthest away from me, I can hear noises coming from the television downstairs and my mother laughing.  I can hear my little sister as she is constantly laughing too.

3. In a medium range, I hear cars driving past my house outside and noises coming from the television in my bedroom.  I also hear music coming from my portable speaker.

4. Closest to me, I hear my fingers typing on my keyboard and air being blown out of my laptop.  Internally, I can hear words of encouragement as I am working on an assignment.

5. The general sound level is rather noisy than quiet due to a good amount of sound activity being present.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “tranquil”.

7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the sounds coming from the television in my bedroom, the sounds of music coming from my speaker, and my sister laughing downstairs.

Sounds Farthest away from me: my brothers playing pool, my brothers screaming, pets running around the house, the bell on my cat’s collar

Medium Range: my parents talking, my parents watching a movie from their bedroom

Closest to me: tapping on a keyboard, music from my headphones, my phone going off from notifications

General sound level: medium and low activity closer to me

One word description: normal

3 essential sounds: watching a movie, my brothers screaming, pets running around the house

Journal Entry #9

  1. 4/1/2020, 5.30pm, Chipotle
  2. Cars driving by outside, car honks & wind outside.
  3. Door opening/closing, car beep from locking it, & music playing in the back room.
  4. Meat sizzling, oven beeping, workers talking, paper to-go bags opening, & food containers opening/closing.
  5. The sound level was quite low since Chipotle is only take-out and no customers were inside.  The amount of sound activity was high since all the workers were preparing food orders. 
  6. Balanced. 
  7. Food sizzling, food containers opening/closing, and to-go bags prepared.

Farthest Sound- The shower from the master bedroom going off a few rooms over, and the dishes being washed in the kitchen.

Medium Distance- The washer and dryer going off and one of my roommates folding them and putting them away.

Closest Distance- My music playing as I work on my homework and the typing on my computer, the wind is also blowing quite against my window making a whistling sound. 

Sound Description- Hectic and busy

Important Sounds- The shower, the washer and dryer, my music, and the dishes.
