5- A lot of general sound but I could hear individual conversations and noises if I focus on them

1- 04/05/2013- 12:41 am- My room in Vander Poel

2- Sounds farthest away: Extreme silence. The occasional car passing by on Oak Street and some wind, but not a whole lot.

3- Sounds at medium range: Radiator’s hum, Caitlin breathing, Graham breathing, a small burst of laughter from Graham.

4- Sounds closest: My toes cracking, the bottom edge of a poster behind my head sliding along the wall, keyboard keys, a computer fan, my own breathing.

5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: It’s almost uncomfortably quiet in here, as we’re all in our own little worlds.

6- One word description to the “sound environment”: Unnerving.

1- 4/2/13 11:30 AM, Amtrak train from Union Station, DC to Penn Station, NYC

2- Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you- Clanking sound of the train moving

3- Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you- Kids shouting and running up and down the aisle, one of them repeatedly flushing the toilet, ticket taker moving through the cabin scanning tickets- the machine making a small beep once they are scanned,
4- Identify and list the sounds closest to you- The flipping of pages as I attempt to read my book
6- Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”- Obnoxious
7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment. Clanking sound of the train, kids screaming, scanning tickets

1- 04/04/2013- 9:08pm- Black Box Theater New Academic Building (NAB) Rehearsal for 5 Women.

2- Sounds farthest away: High-pitched but quiet hum of what could be a heater, radiator or lights.

3- Sounds at medium range: Eliza (Meredith) yelling at Sophie (Mindy), Meredith rips a piece of paper. Corinne (Trisha) putting make up away, Morgan’s (Georganne) skirt ruffles against her seat in the audience as she gets up for her upcoming cue.

4- Sounds closest: The sound of my paper crinkling as I write notes, the pencil rubbing against the paper. As I take an occasional bite of pizza, I hear the ripping crunch and then squish and crunch as I chew. Tom takes a swig of water from his water bottle.

5- General sound level and amount of sound activity: Sound level is very high as there is much sound activity including internal and external sounds with screams, paper rips, crinkling, and general movement. Sounds like everything’s falling apart.

6- One word description to the “sound environment”: Ripping.

7- Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.: Meredith screaming, ripping paper, rip and crunch of pizza.

1. April 4, 11:07 pm, 7th floor of Vander Poel

2. Radiator hum, door opening down the hall

3. Music from friend’s laptop, talking, laughter, shoes tapping on floor

4. Keyboard, waterbottle

5. The sound level is fluctuating. There are short bursts of increased volume, only for it to quiet down soon after.

1) 4/2/2013, 10:17pm, Republic Hall Lounge (while watching an episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead)

2) Doors closing down the hallway (slamming shut), the sliding doors opening signaling someone entering or exiting the building, the click when the door to the lounge is opened successfully by someone’s ID and that door opening and closing.

3) The television with the episode of The Walking Dead on, the fan in the kitchen, the microwave in the same kitchen beeping (someone’s food is done!), door to the stairwell opening and closing (the doorknob is loose it seems)

4) People “discussing” the TV show (it is mostly yelling about who thinks what is going to happen and what that would mean for the characters involved and who is wrong and who is right and such), me crunching on an Everlasting Gobstopper, opening and closing of the study room door and the clicking involved with that (signaling that the door is successfully unlocked)

5) There is a lot of activity and it is very loud -__-

7) The people “discussing” The Walking Dead, the doors in and out of the study room opening and closing, the actual episode of The Walking Dead that is playing

1. April 4th – 8:47 PM – Studio
2. The heater blowing on high, Alan singing operatically in the hallway, the music playing on the speakers
3. Nic and Tanner talking, Lee humming, some boxes falling under Ally’s desk
4. Typing, my phone vibrating
5. The sound level in the room is moderate – it’s not too loud, not too quiet… just average! The amount of sound activity is relatively high for the studio. There’s a lot of things going on at once.

7. The music, the talking, and of course Lee’s humming!

  1. Breslin Hall, early morning, Sitting in my classroom a few minutes early, around 9:30am
  2. Footsteps in the hallway, doors opening and closing, faint voices growing louder, occasional laughter
  3. Door to my classroom opening and closing, short bursts of loud sound from the hall, laughing, voices from right outside the door,
  4. Chairs scooting in, books being set on desk, murmerirng, a zipper, clothes bustling as people get settled
