Journal 4

  1. The intramural fields, Tuesday February 20 at 4P.M.
  2. Farthest: The planes flying in the distance and cars driving down Hempstead Turnpike with the occasional siren of a fire truck.
  3. Medium: The cars driving over the speed bump next to the stop sign (never truly stopping though), the frisbee team running, their cleats making a very distinct sound as they grab the soft dirt, and the frisbee captains calling to the girls to bring it in.
  4. Closest: The frisbee girls who arrived late unzipping their duffel bags and sitting down in the grass to put their cleats on, they also greet me with various ways of saying hello and talk about how the weather finally let them play outside again. I can also hear the sound of a squirrel running up the tree I am leaning my back against, it is a very distinct fast paced scratching (tick tick tick) sound.
  5. The general sound level is low but busy, with the occasional burst of loudness from the frisbee team.
  6. Frisbee.
  7. 3 essential sounds: The cleats running, the captains yelling, and the duffel bags unzipping.

Field Recording three

My suite in C-square, 12A.M.

You can hear my marker rubbing against the paper of my coloring book. Although it is the marker making the sound the different motions cause sharper, duller, deeper, or higher pitched sounds. You can also tell when I changed which shape the marker was coloring including the swirls and straight lines. At one point you can hear a dull murmur of words as my suite mates talk.
