I Really Gotta Do this In a Different Spot Log #5

Farthest Sound- The wind howling out side my dorm, the window has a few small gaps and the wind is strong enough to force itself through. Making the window produce this wishing sound.  

Medium Distance- The people of Hague running around in the halls, and others laughing with friends downstairs in the lounge.

Closest Distance- My roommate crinkling plastic and boxing as she finishes a drama 5 project for the one and only Jim Heart. The sink runs as she washes off her paint brushes and palette. 

Sound Description- Busy and Simi noisy but not in a bad way.

Important Sounds- The wind, it really be gusty out there. My roommate crinkling plastic, and the sound of tape being ripped.

  2. Voices in hallway, percussion instruments being rolled into room, & doors opening/closing.
  3. Instrument cases opening/closing, students voices, footsteps, & various instruments being played/warming up.
  4. Music stand squeaking, chairs shuffling, sheet music being shuffled, & my clarinet.
  5. The sound level is high because since the room is large and the acoustics are wide/open, the sound of instruments being warmed up plus students talking filled the space completely.  The amount of sound activity was also high because there were many varieties of instruments played on top of each other, which made it hard to focus on individual sounds.  
  6. Clamorous.
  7. Musical instruments being played, music stands squeaking, & shuffling of sheet music.

  1. Date: 2/27/20 – Time: 12:00pm – Location: Emily Lowe Hall Room 106
  2. The farthest sound from me is a car horn going off in the parking lot outside of the classroom.
  3. In the medium range of sound, I can hear chatting amongst students on the other side of the room.
  4. The closest sound from me is my partner talking to me face to face.
  5. The general sound level is more on the noisy side and the amount of sound activity is large since there are a lot of people making noise in the room.
  6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is chatty.
  7. 3 things that are essential to the “sound environment” is the car horn going off in the parking lot, the students chatting amongst themselves, and my partner talking to me face to face.

Farthest away: doors opening and closing, unzipping of backpacks, people talking

Medium range: Ovens beeping, people talking, plastic/paper crinkling

Closest: people talking, people putting a water bottle down, my friend talking to me, typing on a keyboard, me coughing

sound level: quiet to medium volume

one word description: work

3 essential sounds: ovens beeping, doors opening, people talking

Journal Entry #4 – Ferguson

1. Date: 2/18/20 – Time: 12:40pm – Location: AMC 34th Street 14 (Auditorium 11)

2. Farthest away from me, I can hear the doors being opened and closed shut as people are entering the Auditorium, as well as those same people walking up the steps towards their seats.

3. In a medium range of sound, I hear a few people around me chatting with one another (before the start of the movie) and munching on their popcorn. I also hear the audio from the movie, since there are speakers placed throughout the auditorium

4. The closest sounds involve me munching on my popcorn and creating noise from having to forcefully remove my drink from the sticky cup holder. Moreover, I can hear the sipping noise while I am consuming my beverage.  There are inner thoughts in my head too, wondering how the movie will turn out.

5. The general sound level is loud, but not too loud, due to the nice volume level within the movie. Everyone in the Auditorium is sitting still for the most part, so there is not much sound activity happening other than the sound in the movie.

6. One word to describe the “sound environment” is “relaxing”.

7. Three sounds that are essential to the “sound environment” are the audio from the movie, small chatter as people react to things in the movie, and the munching of popcorn.
