2/27/14: Vending machine line at Seussical Jr. rehearsal

Sounds heard: shuffling on phone, older voice, young kids voices in the distance, fake crying, ruffling of potato chip bag, someone asking me “You’re in college, right?”

Journal Entry #5

1. 2/27/2014, 3:00 PM, Rehearsal of Seussical Jr at a K-8 private school.

2. Identify the sounds farthest from you: the boom box playing music, kids singing along to the music, director shouting out dance moves

3. Identify the sounds at medium range: kids stomping around running in the back of the room, feet landing from effortful kartwheels, feet shuffling trying to find the right position.

4. Identify the sounds closest to you: my watch ticking, my pen writing on paper, kids whispering behind me, someone chewing next to me

5. General sound level and activity: the kids are attempting (and failing) to be quiet and calm, so the sound level is a medium but a whole lot of activity is going on.

6. One word to describe the sound environment:

Youthful

7. 3 essential sounds to the sound environment

-boom box playing music

-kids running around in the back

-my watch ticking
