Date: April 16th, 2022

Location and Time: Northern State Parkway, 6:27am

Far Sounds: Truck honking in the distance, distant engine revving, trees blowing in the wind, ambulance siren going

Medium Sounds: Blinker going, back of the car shaking, truck driving by, train horn honking

Close Sounds: “Fantasy” by Mariah Carey playing quietly, my car engine revving, the car going over bumps, car coming to screeching stop in front of me

Sound Description/Level: busy, morning rush

One Word Description: Rushing

Most Important Sounds: blinker, “Fantasy”, car coming to a screeching stop

Sound Journal

I-95 toward Bridgeport, March 15, 2019, 8 pm

Far: police car with sirens on the other side of the highway

Medium: whoosh as other cars pass

Close: radio in the background (the way words are incomprehensible when you’re not really listening), tires against the road, general hum of the engine

Sound level: relatively high, sound coming from everywhere

One word: moving

Essential sounds: police sirens, radio, engine

A Drive To Work

Thursday 2/12/15 LIE (note: I didn’t close my eyes during this observation as I was driving)

Farthest sounds: Diesel engine noise of Tractor Trailer next to me, general highway hum.

Medium sounds: Engine hum of my new Fiat 500, Rrrrrrr of tires rolling on the pavement, Wind passing over the car.

Closest Sounds: “Walk on the Wild Side” blasting from my radio and the faint voice of the “Waze” app woman telling how miles to my exit coming from my phone.

Sound Level: LOUD. I enjoy blasting my stereo in the car.

One Word Description: Driving
