Journal Post #2

  1. Thursday the 19th, 6pm, My table at an Italian restaurant
  2. Furthest sounds are the sizzling pans in the kitchen, the audio of the tvs in the bar, and the maître d’ calling people to their tables
  3. Medium sounds are the hustle and bustle of the servers, the waiters checking in on the tables around me, the clinking of silverware against people’s plates, but mostly the sounds of many many people around me talking.
  4. Closest to me is the people at my table talking, the shifting of my creaky chair, and the soft pound of my drink as it hits the table, along with the subtle shake of the ice
  5. The general sound level is very high, as it is the dinner rush and a lot of people are inside. There is a large amount of different noises around me.
  6. Chaotic
  7. 3 essential sounds: Guests around me talking, the clinking of silverware, and the conversations of my own table.

Jounal Entry #6

3/9/11, Colony Diner, 11:00 pm

The sound furthest away from my position in the sound environment are the clatter of dishes from the kitchen of the diner.
The sounds of medium distance from me in the sound environment are male and female voices of wait staff and other customers and the banging and clanging of cups and silverware on tables surrounding us.
The sound closest to me is Conor Burke’s voice.
The general sound level is fairly relaxed with many sounds in the environment but none in particular at an astonishing high or overwhelming level. The amount of sound activity is great.
The sound activity can be described as hurried.
The three sounds essential to this sound environment are male/female voices, the clatter of silverware, and the clatter of dishes.
